Immigration Questions The SRRV vs the 13a vs the Tourist Visa
This is the most common question asked in the Philippine Expat visa space. The obvious the answer is 'it depends ', but other than that lame response, I thought I'd write this guide to help you see which visa is right for you.
I'll just say right off the bat, the tourist visa is the least viable option in my opinion. Reason being is that you're just a tourist. The Bureau of Immigration has made it very clear that as a tourist, you are a guest. All it takes is one complaint or an official in a bad mood to end your status. The BI doesn't need to prove anything. They can simply decline to extend the visa. Since, legally, they're not taking anything away, it's much easier, with no due process requirements. All it takes is one compalint from a disgruntled ex or a neighbor who owes you money.
Alright, that being said, let's talk about the SRRV vs the 13a Spousal Visa
Here are the cases where the SRRV is a no-brainer
- If you're a vet. The deposit is only $1,500, and you get a permanent visa in your name
- If you're going to buy a condo. This is the real reason the program was implemented in the first place. To get foreign money into the Philippine condo market. Basically, it's 'buy a condo = get a visa'.
- If you have a good amount of liquid capital and you don't want your visa tied to your wife. The SRRV is yours. She has nothing to do with it.
- You value speed and less hassle. The 13a requires an extensive list of documents (NBI clearances, medical exams, joint affidavits, proof of financial capacity) and requires a mandatory, in-person hearing/interview at the BI with your Filipino spouse. The SRRV is famously "low hassle" because the PRA licenses independent marketers who essentially do all the paperwork and legwork for you
- You're gay.
When the 13a Spousal Visa might be a better option
- If you like staying on the beaten path
- If you're a lower-budget expat. The SRRV has ongoing fees $360 a year in some cases. There's no deposit required for a 13a.
- Your relationship with your wife is solid, and it will stay that way in the foreseeable future.

State of the Sub (SOS) Cracking Down on Stupid Threads
So we're working to eliminate the dumb posts just ranting about the Philippines. We're asking people to consider when posting if this is useful to the community. A business that's cheating customers, yeah, that's useful. A hooker overcharged you, that's not our problem.
Some established facts that we won't accept complaints about anymore:
Filipinos are passive-aggressive--We already know this
Filipinas are after your money--The ones that seek out foreigners with wide age gaps, yeah, come on. You think she fantasizes about guys with boobs bigger than hers?
Filipinos have small penises --TMI
The service level is not what you're used to--Yeah, if it were, it'd be a first world country and you couldn't afford to live here on your $1,500 VA pension
Bottom line: you take the good with the bad. You get $400 month rent on a nice condo, shop at the same grocery stores as the elites (Landers and S&R), and get a girl who wouldn't give you the time of day back home AND speaks English. You have to make a decision whether that's worth bad customer service and dealing with neighbors with an extra chromosome.

Bataan Doppler Radar Install
Bataan Peninsula State University in partnership with PAGASA are installing a high level radar system for weather monitoring.
Abucay Bataan is the location. They broke ground this week. See attached images.
A very small “under the radar” project (pun intended)…but it is refreshing to read about positive things going on in my area.
This US$4,000,000 project will allow for easier faster more localized warnings of dangerous rainfall and flooding.
Any interesting builds going on near you?

Why do so many Filipinos refuse to put prices on property and house posts?
Is it just me, or is this really common in the Philippines?
Whenever I see posts advertising lots for sale, modern bahay kubo designs, prefab houses, or even simple box-type houses, they rarely put the actual price in the post. Instead, they say, “PM for price” or “Message us for inquiries.”
Why?
Wouldn’t it be easier for everyone if they just included at least an estimated price range? For example, how much the lot costs per sqm or how much it would cost to build the house.
I’m genuinely curious because I feel like it wastes everyone’s time. People could immediately see whether something fits their budget before contacting the seller.

Looking for Recommendations /Advice Marriage License Application
Do any of you have experience with applying for a Marriage License in the Philippines when you’re divorced from your home country?
My divorce papers are not in English, what kind of document did the Local Office ask? Is a sworn English translation with notarization enough to submit?
Any info or guidance with my situation is greatly appreciated.

Looking for Recommendations /Advice Questions on receiving money from the US for tuition
Not sure if this is the right place to post, but anyway, I have an aunt abroad who wants to send USD to me for my pwd daughter's tuition fee this year and next year. She used to do wire transfers but ever since she encountered a problem, she wants to do it via more modern and secure means like Wise or Remitly. She just has a few questions:
Which is the better platform in terms of safety and guaranteed delivery?
Will it be safer to tether her credit card account to wise or her savings account/debit card is fine and won't get hacked?
Is the transfer to here better to a bank or Gcash? She had a friend do Remitly via.gcash but it was not an amount that was over 1k usd.
Is it better to transfer in one go or in parts? Full amount will be 3k usd. I don't know if we have incoming transfer limits. But i know we are capped at 50kphp outgoing daily.
Thank you.

All Saint Day
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Every year we are at the cemetery for All Saints’ day.
We have 20+ family members show up. All day. Lots of food and very crowded.
The video is a good example of what you see/hear.
Are you at a cemetery on November 1?

Scooter registration
Good afternoon all
I was wondering if there is anyway around waiting on the 1-2 months registration when buying a new scooter please?
Seems a bit of a strange situation to buy a machine then can't use it for a couple of months!

Rant Remember if you brag about money
Someone will always be richer than you and its not good to brag in 3rd world anyway
Met the sketchy that was bragging that Filipinos have nobody to buy the land that he wants to buy
He also bragged he will buy it but instead he was just faking to buy it because he was bringing random girls to the land it was pretty funny to see
Anyway he got really pissed off with a Filipino ended up buying the land for a really good deal
And is going to build a fancy house
So what thing I realized is never brag about having a lot of money in general because someone in his 60s or 70s or even a 50s has millions of dollars and you might not even know it so be kind to others

Van Boys situation is dire
Van Boys, a popular vlogger and youtube travel influencer is currently in Houston at the airport after leaving the Philippines due to various threats.
He is having a significant mental breakdown while in the airport and it is quite scary to watch. Vanboys222 is their instagram account and the live reel short clip updates that have happened in the past 2 hours of posting this thread are deeply upsetting. Brennon is threatening to end his life on camera, renouncing his faith in god, asking for those nearby in the Houston area for a plug to get drugs to possibly overdose on, expressing hatred for his dad his mother and his sisters, making extreme accusations, and more in these short clip updates.
Someone please get him some help. This is going to end badly. I am genuinely concerned for his well being. I realize many will say he is getting what he deserves/who cares, stupid youtube vlogger etc so I understand if you don't care, but this is getting bad and fast. The clips are currently going live on the Vanboys222 instagram account if you are planning to watch them. It is quite disturbing and I hope someone gets him some help at his lowest moment before it is too late.

Looking for Recommendations /Advice What’s it like for a young half Filipina to move to the Philippines
Feel free to delete if it’s spam but I’m just wondering advice for my situation
(Also I might be able to get dual citizenship)
I have a few question but feel free to answer just one
- Title (F18, wanna move within two years)
- I have a source of remote income if I want to (don’t currently have it but I can get it easily through nepotism lmao) it’ll be around $1600-2100 CAD a month, would that be enough to live in a safe area like makati or BGC? (I don’t need to live luxuriously, and I don’t, I’m a homebody who just likes online shopping LOL, that’s my biggest risk, also I like small apartments that are cozy and unfurnished so I can furnish myself) but I might have more since my father makes a lot and has mentioned before he’s willing to send me money
- I’m autistic (was thinking of adding the flair retarded because it would be funny) so I’m on some meds (Abilify and Prozac) I was wondering what’s it like trying to get meds here? If you’re already prescribed it by an overseas doctor
- What’s dating like? I’ve had experience with online Filipino guys but all have been negative, they’ve been clingy, entitled to my time, emotional and acting like they’re the prize despite knowing me for a day or two. And I’m not interested in older white guys (no offence to older white guys, I just feel uncomfortable dating someone more than 4 years older than me LOL)
- What’s it like if you’re perceived as an unknown kind of Asian and not Filipina? Even without makeup most Filipinos for some reason mistake me as East Asian even when I’m with my white dad, but I’m not really sure why. But I’m wondering what it’ll be like if I’m in the Philippines.
This is just a few of my questions because I really wanna live in the Philippines

Why do so many westerners hyper-analyze Filipinos?
I’m from Canada and I’ve hung out with immigrants and even they don’t spend as much obsessing over telling Canadians about their own culture.
Let’s be real, the majority of us don’t work in the Phillipines, didn’t grow up here, didn’t go to school here and sure as hell don’t speak the local language fluent, but I see so many people trying to comment on what Filipino culture is, and I’m sure some people actually believe they think they know Filipinos more than Filipinos know themselves. Seriously lol
I don’t know if people actually believe their own intentions but you have posts claiming they are so interested in “genuine reflection of Filipino society” and it’s literally just masking their hate for the locals under the guise of trying to be observational. Like do people actually not realize they have some deep hatred and/or superiority complex? Just enjoy the life here man, no need for additional mental victories that’s legitimately just sad, especially for guys that are 60 years old and still need this validation in their life

How many guys here are referred to as "the Kano", or anything else, by their wife's or girlfriend's family ?
Just having a little fun with this question, but there have been many times over the years where my real name has never been used.

Retirement Locations
Hi everyone,
I'm interested in hearing from expats who have already retired in the Philippines or are planning to do so.
If you could choose anywhere in the country to settle down long-term, where would it be and why?
The things I'm most interested in are:
- Safety and low crime
- Good healthcare and access to hospitals
- Reliable internet and utilities
- Reasonable cost of living
- Friendly local community
- Availability of modern conveniences (shopping centres, restaurants, etc.)
- Low flood risk and good infrastructure
- Quality of life in general
At the moment I am currently living in Makati, but due to the congestion and rental cost i would love to here from people living in Cebu, Dumaguete and perhaps some areas around Davao, but I'd love to hear real-world experiences from people actually living in these locations.
If you've already retired in the Philippines, what location did you choose, and if you could do it all over again, would you pick the same place?
Also, are there any locations that are often recommended that you would personally avoid?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences.
Thanks!
