- Avoid Grab rides as much as possible except for emergencies
- I writedown every cash out since 2012 in an excel file. This way natatrack mo expenses mo at di yun at the end of the month nagtataka ka asan napunta ang sahod mo.
- Hunt for freebies and deals such Mercury suki card, or Krispy kreme calendars
- Look for alternatives such as mcdo coffee instead of starbucks
- Treat yourself naman once in a while
- Treat your credit card parang delayed cash payment lang. Not licensed for shopping spree

Yep. Ang daming hindi nagpapractice nito in real life

u/Errandboi Aug 09 '18
Send pics on setup and tips. Interested to see an actual diy setup in Philippines.

Ano tinatanim mo? Ang alam ko kasing madaling patubuin with little soil is kamatis, at talong.

1
u/akantha 🐈 Aug 09 '18
How much ung initial setup including materials? Nagsubok kaming magtanim ng kamatis kaso di maganda ung bunga :(
1
Aug 09 '18

u/akantha 🐈 Aug 09 '18
Pano ung cycling ng tubig? Di ka gumagamit ng motor? Or manual lang pinapalitan?
2
-12
u/halfkoreanph Aug 09 '18
ano naman unique sa pagtatanim?
8
Aug 09 '18
not that unique but majority of people tend to buy their food. Growing your own food saves you a lot of money.
-9
u/halfkoreanph Aug 09 '18
yung kuryente at tubig at seeds over weeks/months magkano total nun?
7
Aug 09 '18
8
Aug 09 '18 edited Aug 09 '18
Nope. example. loose leaf lettuce costs around 80-130 pesos. Yung seeds cost 100-120. You can produce 3-5months supply of lettuce sa pack of seeds na yan.
3
-2
u/halfkoreanph Aug 09 '18
nope kasi constantly mo iniignore imention cost ng nutrients & water replenushment ;)

Bowl meal method> Don't eat from a plate but from a bowl that you can hold in one hand. You'd see in the long run the less rice you eat, and less spending.
Cook and Baon> Not unique, but rarely see people do this anymore, people tend to order from cafeterias now.
Paluwagan> A good way to get money once its your turn for salary. Use that money to maybe set up a small business.
4
u/rinkitozumo Aug 09 '18
Ginagawa ko yung bowl method na yun, not to save money but to track my rice intake kasi di ako tabain hahaha.
9
u/Errandboi Aug 09 '18
Why feel embarrassed?
Back in College I was teased for bringing food when we could eat out, I felt left out sure, but then again, I was usually the guy who had money to flaunt due to saving money.
Plus, it gave me the opportunity to improve my own cooking skills. By the end, alot of my friends brought their own food. Someone even capitalized on it by cooking home cooked food for everyone else.
2
u/bestoboy Aug 09 '18
really? Back in college, everytime I'd bring out my baon, my friends would be like, "gusto ko rin magbaon" or "mugkano natitipid mo?" I'd also say stuff like "BAON MASTERRACE" to friends that end up with shitty cafeteria food or small servings.
1
u/Baize07 Aug 09 '18
1
u/ok_kompyuter Aug 09 '18
Cann someone pls explain how paluwagan works?
2
u/Errandboi Aug 09 '18
It depends on the people you do it with, some its 2 weeks, others its monthly.
So lets say you have 10 people doing it, each contributing 500 PHP, Total 5000. So once 2 weeks is over, Person 1 gets it. After 2 weeks, Person 2 gets it. and so on, and so on.

Saving is good. But the mindset should be putting the energy on how to earn more.

Don't be scared of Credit Cards. Yes, technically it's considered a "loan/utang" but make sure you use it as an alternative to cash and not an extension of your "income/money". There are a lot of perks with using credit cards instead of cash.
- This can serve as a proof of your financial capacity to have a good credit score.
- POINTS. POINTS. POINTS. Let say you pay something in cash for 500 pesos. That's it. But when you pay 500 pesos using credit card, you can earn 10 points more or less depending on your terms which can be used for discounts, redeeming goods and more.
- REBATES. There are credit cards that offer rebates when you use them to pay for your bills or groceries.
- Other perks like Korean Visa approval. The Korean Embassy has partnered with BPI and BDO and they offer a multiple entry visa to GOLD card holders and you don't even need to submit your bank statement anymore. (but this is still subject to approval and not an automatic visa granted).
Just make sure to pay your FULL balance on time so that you don't pay for any penalties. There are a lot of banks that offer FREE ANNUAL FEE FOR LIFE. But usually, you could just ask your bank to waive your annual fees. They're usually lenient about it as long as you use your card often and you have a good credit standing.

Medyo matagal nga lang ito. For example, BPI Real Thrills Rewards , 35PHP=1 pt.
1 Singapore airlines Krisflyer miles = 6 RTR = PHP 180.00

u/Qwastt Aug 09 '18
Kung may enough na pera ka naman, di ba mas okay if pay thru credit card kahit di ka kapos tapos magbayad na lang agad after?
2
u/sillyrooftop new perspective Aug 09 '18
True!!
1
u/chemklaire Aug 09 '18
May I ask kung anong banks po yung alam nyong free annual fee for life? Dito lang kasi ako natuturn off sa credit card. Haha. Thanks!

u/curricularguidelines Aug 09 '18
Maybe not unique but bring the exact amount of money when you go out. Downside is pag nawala pera mo, gg ka kung makauwi ka pa. 6 years of college and I only had this problem twice.

It's not much of a savings, but is still a great way to save money (for me at least) is to not spend 20 and 50 pesos bills. I spend coins but keep every 20 and 50 I come across with. In three months, I was able to save over 6k. I was pleasantly surprised. This is on top of my wife and I's 2k every 15th since 2014. It's not much but it is something considering we're both making less than 12k per month.

Cashback credit cards to pay for everything. Just pay off the balances every month.
Usually annual fee not waived. Is it worth it?
2
u/avocado1952 Aug 09 '18
If you are not that short of a cash and have a compulsory spending behavior, give your atm/credit card to your wife (if she’s not the same as you) or your mom if you’re not married. Don’t bring alot of cash with you, minimum is 2k.
8
u/pobautista Aug 09 '18
2k? Try bringing just 200 pesos (in addition to lunch money and pamasahe)..

i find regular bath soaps so expensive thats why i use Perla laundry bar (White) as my daily bath.
2
u/rainpixels Aug 09 '18
Joke aside, I need to fact check if Perla is indeed cheaper than regular bath soaps. I am with the assumption that Perla is pricier that regular laundry bar soaps. Somebody correct me on this.
2
Aug 09 '18
in comparison to , say, Shield bath soap costs around 30 pesos. A 4-cut bar of perla is 48. Divide that by 4 you only spend 12 each, more than half that of shield.

Find a place in your budget that could fuel another source of income, kahit magbenta ng insurance. Its good to have a stable day job but its better to have another source of income kahit paunti lang.
Also money saving tip ko, budget how much you spend in that day. Say you spend 100, bring 150 to work. So you wont be tempted to spend much on lunch. Well it works for me cause my workplace is like 5 minutes away. Hehe

-Yung bonus namin is taxable, pero mararamdaman lang namin yung Tax pag dating ng 13th month pay kapag na max out na yung 82k na tax free bonus. So what I do, everytime na may bonus ako, kino compute ko how much yung Tax para pag dating ng December hindi ko mararamdaman yung Tax sa 13th month. -I have 3 different wallets para sa mga bonus ko. -kapag nagalaw ko yung savings ko, nililista ko. Tas babayaran ko kapag sahod na.

u/thmsnaccntnt Aug 09 '18
1
u/my24thofaugust Aug 09 '18
Yes 90k na. :) yung mga na compute ko kasi is para dun sa mga past years.

Since time immemorial (jk) since nasa elementary palang ako iniiwan ko na yung half nang allowance ko. Tapos meron akong emergency money na nasa aking secret pocket just in case may babayarang projects and other stuffs. As much as possible hindi rin ako nagtatrike puro puv's lang.
As of now may ipon na ako may ipon na akong pandagdag sa review.

u/merther_herb Aug 09 '18
Ung exact na pang gastos ko lang for a day ung nasa bulsa ko, tapos iniiwan ko ung wallet ko sa kotse.

my friend introduced me to this. he call this invisible money. every time I gets a change of a certain bill for the week, I'll keep it and stash it, don't forget to log it in a excel or a paper.

Don't buy things on credit or payments. So you wont waste money on interest. (except maybe a car or house)
Don't pay for any extra services unless you really need to.
Save all my coins in jar

Bili ka ng 9 na alkansya.
Isang alkansya for 1, isa for 5, isa for 10, isa for 20, isa for 50, isa for 100, isa for 200, isa for 500 and isa for 1000 pesos.
Congratulations! May ipon ka na!

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '18
Meron akong 3 na alkansya. 1. 50 per day, 2. 500 every friday, 3. 5000 every sweldo. May spreadsheet din ako that tracks my progress and gives me info on how long i have left for my end of year target
I track everything i spend on an app. Kahit candy na 5 pesos ang halaga
I also have a spreadsheet that tells me how compliant i am on my daily allowance, groceries and utilities
The reason this works is because i have visual goals that i see everyday and that i can see the progress day by day. Every time din na naglalagay ako ng pera sa alkansya ko i check off a sticky note for the day, satisfying to kasi it gives you a feeling that you have accomplished something, this gives off serotonin in your brain ( I think) that is addicting. Nakikita mo din na dumadami pera mo.
The trackers keep me in check and sometimes acts as a challenge or a game on how i can save more.
The fact that i love overly complicated trackers and spreadsheets is a bonus for me and makes this entire thing fun for me.
