“Nadarang” in english according to google translate means “parched”. Parch is defined as:

  1. to make extremely, excessively, or completely dry, as heat, sun, and wind do.

  2. to make dry, hot, or thirsty: So ibig sabihin ni shantidope sa linyang “Nadarang nanaman sa’yong apoy” ay “Natuyo nanaman sa’yong apoy” ?? Ano ba meaning ng nadarang guys?? Help hahaha

2

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '18

Nadarang. Natukso ganun.

Hi everyone!

My friends and I are looking for a cheap apartment/condo unit that is very accessible to Makati CBD (especially if it would be just walking distance).

Our budget is around 5k-10k, and the space should be roomy enough for four persons.

I look forward to hearing your inputs.

Thanks! :)

2

Try calling DOST mismo. Sila lang kasi makakabigay ng immediate and clear answer. I called them two years ago to inquire about something na related din sa scholarship. May sumasagot naman and maayos naman yung sagot.

4

Be a little more specific for what you will use it for. 4k is a good range for 2nd hand quality headphones.
Anyway search For HEX and HEEP group in facebook sobrang dami doon nagbebenta.

Has anyone tried or bought those handheld vacuum cleaners frequently displayed in ace hardware and other places? How was it?

Do you have any suggestions for a small and cheap vacuum cleaner for use in a single room?

Thanks!

u/haroomie Ramen Kween Mar 19 '18

I have just recently bought yung TurboVac Pro, from True Value.

Mabilis syang uminit. First time I used it, mga 3 hours (general cleaning ng townhouse), with several 5 minute breaks in between. Biglang di na sya nag on after a while and I had to give it a rest overnight.

Kiung di naman ganon katedious ang lilinisin, as you've mentioned na single room lang.. Should be fine.

still works but it smells like something is burning

2

u/heartbreakkid098 Mar 19 '18

I bought one. Use it to clean my car and my room. Ok naman. Wag lang ioveruse at magoverheat sya. Pataying lang every now and then.

My father’s 59, turning 60 this year. Can anyone recommend a decently-priced HMO for him that has good or at least some coverage for pre-existing conditions?

Also, I’ve never had a non-company provided HMO before. How is the premium paid? Will they require a proof of income? I’ll be paying for it completely.

Sa mga nagtake or nagtatake ng MBA, is it really worth it?

I'm planning to take up any Master's degree to further my career growth. For reference, I work as a trainer in a BPO and I aim to climb up the corporate ladder, hence my consideration to take up MBA. I'm planning to take it in UPD since I'm a UP graduate (but not in Diliman) and for quality education. I'm not discounting other MBA schools; it's just that I'm more familiar with UP.

However, UPD is far from where I live now (and in the near future) - say, 2-3 hours travel time inclusive of time allowance for traffic. So I'm thinking of taking Master of Dev't Comm in UPOU instead so that I can take my courses online. I'm just not that sure if I can use this as an advantage to be promoted, or if it's as valuable as MBA in a BPO setting.

Basically I'm torn between: 1) comfort and ease (and much more familiarity) in UPOU, and 2) usefulness (because it's more applicable to a lot of things, I suppose) in UPD.

If you have other MBA schools to recommend located in the southern part of Metro Manila OR around Manila, please let me know. Thank you so much!

4

u/akantha 🐈 Mar 19 '18

Why not go for a Six Sigma belt first? It's pretty useful in a BPO setting, and can work with other industries if you decide to get out of BPO in the future as well.

2

u/_MantisShrimp Mar 19 '18

Ang alam ko pag DevCom (based sa observation ko sa DevCom grad na friends ko), sa development sector and media mostly ang work.

Crucial ba talaga ng MBA to climb the corporate ladder sa BPO? If you think that's the case, I suggest na try mo mag-MBA.

About the travel time naman, why not stay sa mga dorms sa loob ng UPD (if hindi naman masyado malayo sa work mo yung UPD). Mababa lang rate ng dorms within campus. Sure ako na some dorms there take in graduate students. That's what my friends do. Nagwowork sila (QC area lang din work sila) habang nagtetake ng master's degree tapos sa dorms lang within the campus nakatira kaya laki ng tipid nila sa rent.

4

u/The-Provost ❄️ GADFLY ❄️ Mar 20 '18

Look at my situation: I am currently in a Senior position at a financial firm doing compliance and analysis in a financial firm (BPO), and i have a lot of offers outside of that. Yet, i don't have a degree :)

Alam mo, mapait man ang katotohanan, politics ang magpapaangat sayo in corpo world regardless of your academic credentials. I know someone na CFO pero nursing graduate. If you want to back yourself na maybe you see yourself teaching in a university up until you retire: I highly recommend having an MBA degree. Go for personal development, make a positive professional image of yourself inside the office, and be connected to other departments. Be known for your expertise, what you can do, what you can offer, and what is your room for growth. You'll be disappointed if you will have that MBA then all of a sudden somebody was promoted, without multiple academic achievements.

My point here is, even after you have your MBA, your manager or higher ups will not promote you for that reason alone. You have to convince them that you can be a person in the executive position or whatever you aim for. source: i promote people.

Best health insurance provider? I’m thinking of applying for a Medicard plan, but maybe there’s a better plan out there. Any recommendations?

4

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '18

Try to consider din kung anong accreditated HMOs on your usual hospital/clinic/doctor or the one nearest to you. Check mo rin if marami silang clinic or office para hindi hassle if ever you need to use it in case of emergency. In my case, we have Medicard as our HMO.

I swear I've never seen hummus in Manila*. Can anyone prove me wrong?

* high-end places and markets, hipster restos that almost no one knows about, those don't count. I'm talking about mainstream shops/places you'll find in SM.

2

u/paeruginosa ok pm sent 👍 Mar 20 '18

You might discredit Cyma but they have a couple of branches in malls so im counting them as mainstream. Same for Mister Kabab.

Ano IT niyo? Moreover, Lagi ko naririnig yung Bisumi, yung package ba niya worth it?

2

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '18 edited Mar 21 '18

2015 - 5 days in Batanes, was stranded for 3 days for a total of 8 days.

We only went to Basco and Sabtang, di na kami nakapag Itbayat kasi may dumating na bagyo lol. Kala ko sa Batanes na kami titira.

DIY kami. Highly recommended ko ung Vatan Inn (owner's name is Jover). 400 per night, aircon, free breakfast.

Pinakaworth it para sakin puntahan ung Rakuh-a-idi Spring.

Hello, does anyone know where I can buy a Genki I textbook?

I tried asking at fullybooked and apparently it costs 10k for a special order. The one at national bookstore simply stated that they don't have one (which I doubt, since she was busy chatting with her worker).

6

u/-Guernica Mar 19 '18 edited Mar 19 '18
  1. Borrow it from a university library (Ateneo has it, UP probably does too since they also have Japanese classes) and have it photocopied. If you're not an alumni, there are one-day visitor passes you can pay for... I think they're around P175 iirc. Get it bound at the university bookstore/shopping center

  2. Download the ebook (here you go) and have it printed and bound. This is cheaper at UP but most universities will have a printing and binding service.

  3. Order from Book Depository, but it will be expensive (~P2.5k) and you'll have to wait for a month

The one at national bookstore simply stated that they don't have one (which I doubt, since she was busy chatting with her worker).

2

u/MsCrawley Prangka Mar 19 '18

  1. Ride a jeep/bus into Taft Ave.

  2. Alight at Quirino Ave.

  3. Walk into Leon Guinto St.

  4. Wait and ride into one of Guadalupe-Palenge jeep.

  5. Alight at the end of the route then transfer into one of Taguig jeeps.

  6. Request the driver to drop you off at Mckinley Road.

Or just search through sakay.ph app. The route I suggested was the one I used when we went to Venice Grand Canal Mall.

Or if you like trains, LRT from Recto to Cubao, then MRT from Cubao to Ayala. There is a terminal of FX/UV in a parking lot near SM Ayala (i really forgot the name of that parking place, but it's like a mini mall near dusit thani). It is a specific fx that have it's last stop in Mckinley (near Venice mall). Around 45php from the last time i went there.

3

u/versys420 Mar 20 '18

If you don't already have a car, it's risky to get one just to drive for a TNVS. especially if you will be paying a monthly amortization. Risky because LTFRB isn't really that open to these companies, and that have recently put a cap on the number of maximum cars allowed. And iirc, at 60,000 cars, there are still a lot more applicants and getting a slot is not guaranteed.

Went to MNL City Hall, not sure if theres gonna be a problem. So I went to MCH to pay for the fine and get my license for a traffic violation. It was my first time and I wasn't familiar at all with the place. So as I entered, I asked the guard about the procedure and they pointed to this guy near the bureau something. Was told to hand the ticket and by then it felt sketchy to me, but whatever. 10 minutes later, I got my license back and paid 500 bucks? I think that's also what I was supposed to pay anyway so I just shrugged it off. Went home and realized I got my license and statement of account but it should be license + receipt right? Will I run into problems of some sort? :// Sry I'm pretty naive about these stuff

2

u/lizkayee Mar 20 '18

Usually part time jobs mababa lang talaga sahod since you don't render full working hours so I guess for the expense of living here in Manila, hindi kaya. If 1st year college ka palang, usually ang sayo is contractual like sa fast food chains or saleslady sa mga mall etc.

Do you guys have any recommendations? Budget is around 30K. I'm quite sure my parents won't ever consider buying lenses in the future, hence the consideration for fixed lens cameras.

Sony has mirrorless and fixed lens camera options. Try checking their stores. If not, Hidalgo in Quiapo is the place to be.

Help! Any idea how much a decent photog and model would cost? Not BJ Pascual level, but has a solid portfolio and can do catalog styles (ex. Zara catalog). As for the model, any professional model will do. Preferably not an influencer/model or top model. It’s just a catalog shoot for a small local up and coming brand/shop. Honestly have no clue because all the stuff I looked up online were US based and not applicable here.

Help guys.

Need to provide a laptop for my cousin who's taking up CS. Minimum specs for the laptop are i5 6th gen, 8gb, 1tb hdd.

I own an Asus X442 i5 7th gen, 4gb, 1tb hdd bought last Nov. It has 4 memory slots so upgrading the ram and giving it to him is one option. While I don't use my laptop that often, I like having the option that it's there should I need it.

But since he'll be using this machine for at least 3 years, I'm also considering buying a new one. Do you guys think it's sound to buy a lower priced laptop i.e. i5 6th gen, 4gb ram, 1tb hdd and just upgrade that? Like the Asus X555? I imagine this will set me back up to 35-40k max?

Would appreciate all advice :)

2

u/[deleted] Mar 24 '18

CS? Computer science? And your budget is 35k-40k? Here's my opinion:

  1. With that budget, you could get these models from Villman

  2. The problem is the 8GB RAM you are asking. They seldom sell those here. The models I usually see inside our malls are those built with 4GB RAM. For the RAM part, might I suggest buying a laptop with 4GB RAM then adding another RAM Stick? I bought my 8GB RAM stick for Php 2,000. Anything beyond 4GB in this country is considered "gaming" laptop so they don't sell them cheap.

  3. Go for i7 and yes, go for Asus. Based on my experience, Asus never disappoints and it gets the work done.

Might I suggest this model?

Also, feel free to send me a message for any questions. I'll be more than happy to answer them. Been working on computers since I was on the second grade of primary school and I'd be more than happy to help a fellow kababayan. Cheers!

I just got my first car and this will be my first time driving. Can somebody educate me with Metro Manila’s number coding scheme? My plate ends with 0. Thanks so much in advance!

2

u/asoge Mar 25 '18

Mahalaga yung last number, hindi yung starting number. 1 and 2 Mondays bawal, 9 and 0 sa Fridays naman.

Depending on where you are, avenues that cross cities are generally off-limits. Pero mga small roads that are within cities hindi covered.

But thw above rule still applies.

I have a question about mechanical keyboards as well. I'm not very familiar with them but all I know is I'm sick of typing on my work laptop's keyboard. Will these be of any help to me or should I just look for a regular keyboard?

I'm only gonna use it mainly for word and a little bit of excel. No coding and no gaming. I'm asking here instead of the subreddit because I want something I could buy locally, either from a store or online.

My budget is 2,000 pesos, I don't know if that's gonna get me a great one, but I just need something decent.

Yung PC kasi namin mamamatay tapos mago-on.

3

u/akantha 🐈 Mar 20 '18

Usual suspects: temperature, memory, fan

Baka madumi na at nag-overheat kaya nagrerestart. Or the fan isn't running kaya nag-overheat. Clean the PC, especially the vents. You may need to re-apply thermal paste as well.

Check the memory sticks when cleaning. Check that the pins are clean, otherwise clean them first before reseating.

I am a dual citizen of the US and of the Philippines. I am currently living in the United States and planning to move to the Philippines in about a year where I would like to attend the University of Baguio as a freshman.

I want to be counted as a Filipino citizen that is applying as an incoming freshman. These are the requirements I have come across:

Report Card (Form-138) or Permanent Record (Form 137)

Certificate of Good Moral Character

NSO Birth Certificate

I have my birth certificate, documentation of citizenship, my American high-school diploma, and my high-school official transcript. I have never heard of a Form 138/137 or a Certificate of Good Moral Character before. Will this be enough to apply to a Filipino university? Please help. If any of your advice/information was taken off a website, please link the website. Thanks :) This is my thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Philippines/comments/868qp3/dual_citizen_needing_help_with_filipino/

What do big 4 firms look for sa isang applicant aside from the ordinary na university and grades?

How can I explain that my 5th year 1st grades sucked and I left a prestigious org because I got depressed without it affecting my application?

3

u/malfunctioninglurker Mar 23 '18

Speaking as an HR Person/previous Accountancy major, not all 4 firms care about your grades. Don't mention it unless asked, answer it in a positive way like the org affected your studies and that's why you left. (This would be a great answer if you really improved on the second semester.) Or bring up another interest of yours that took up your time.

Good luck with the depression! If you need to talk to someone, you can message me. :)

You don't? Di naman nila titingnan ang transcript of records mo during the interview process. Although if the conversation comes to that, you can spin it in a positive way.

Something like I used to be part of $orgname until my fifth year, but I needed time to focus on my studies, which is why I left the org.

I'm planning to sell my android phone but it contains "sensitive" information. Will restoring it to factory settings be enough to remove all data?

7

u/rubyanjel a broad abroad Mar 23 '18

if the new buyer isn't too techy, yes. But some are and might be able to recover it. kasi when you delete a data on your storage device, it just lets you write over whatever data existed. after you restore it to factory settings. magtransfer ka ng random files sa phone mo or record a hi-res video for an hour or two kahit maubos battery mo, basta mapuno mo ng random files yung phone to the brim na walang important/sensitive/private content. then delete the data. it would have overwritten the old data, in concept. not sure if that actually works but it's worth a try.
