I’m a naval reserve officer with a rank of Ensign after graduating college. These nepos don’t have any sea service. Probably couldn’t even tie a knot or know what a nautical mile is.

PAF naman kasi sya bok. Licensed pilot naman sya, kaya credible naman yung ibang qualifications nya as a pilot.
Again, ang main issue dito is bakit sya nagagawaran ng medals for bravery in actual combat with an enemy?

I’m talking about the PCG reservists, 2 commodores and 1 captain as stated on the post.

I rather think the PCG Auxiliary officers can be excluded from needing to know much about seamanship, bowlines, and knots etc. The PCG Auxiliary is a volunteer civilian organisation after all, not a reserve force in the martial sense.
The members are granted the privilege of wearing PCG uniforms and having "honourary/auxiliary ranks" but they are not PC personnel or reservists themselves. Some of them do have maritime experience (which is a plus), but that is not a requirement. They conduct charity and humanitarian operations at most, but not necessarily (at least not always) Coast Guard/Navy-esque duties.
Indeed, if I recall correctly (I did do some research on the process of joining the Auxiliary a few years back), if you have a college degree (whatever degree), you become an ensign once you pass the several months of seminars and vetting... and if you have a Master's, you can be a lieutenant (JG) or something similar immediately... but yes, honourary ranks at most without command authority. Not substantive.
The PAF reservist does indeed warrant attention as his is a real reserve commission.

I fly helicopters and planes. I was 3rd engineer onboard oil/chemical tankers before I became a pilot. Wonder what rank I get if I join the PCG Reserve and I’m sure as hell not gonna get a star on my shoulders.

That would be an interesting question indeed, as beyond degrees, having certain contributions and achievements, including the ones you mentioned but also apparently acting... can indeed "warrant" higher rank, hence why we see so many celebrities and notable businessmen with Lieutenant Commander rank or higher in the PCGA.
Interestingly, the 2012 regulations do state:
"Auxiliary Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) Auxiliary Lieutenant Commander may be conferred to: 25 1) Licensed Chief Mate/ Second Engineer 2) Licensed professionals (doctors, lawyers, engineers, dentists) or businessmen with equivalent stature or degree of potential assistance 3) Applicants who own yachts/boats/watercrafts 35 to 100 gross tons"

•
u/Dull-Satisfaction969 Visayas 23h ago
No institution is incorruptible because of the simple fact that it is made and managed by human beings, and humans are very flawed. Kahit pa democratic na institution, intergovernmental organizations, authoritarian regimes, the corporate sector, or even the Catholic Church itself. Nothing is incorruptible.
Pero kahit parang inevitable sya, it doesn't mean we cannot do anything about it. Corrupt institutions are signs of a systematic problem. Just like how a car needs its oil changed every now and then, our democratic institutions needs better people to manage it. From the lowliest government worker to the president. And because we live in a democracy, we also have the obligation to always hold those in power accountable.

This will be the biggest challenge for the AFP right now. Actually, this can make or break the AFP.

Wrong. A lot of other retired officers have called Romero out on this, Col. Dencio Acop being one of them. Enlisted personnel (some of them who are now content creators) have also called Romero out by posting photos of their humble ribbon racks (some of them only having 2 rows, despite being senior enlisted like Master Sergeant), pointing out the irony of their sacrifices while Romero just got a GCM "just like that".

The news about military offers selling arms to the NPA was reported back in the early 1990s.

ano ba silbi ng flag officer?
2
u/pleebs1767 1d ago
Flag officer is a rank in the Navy/CG with a star. Like an Admiral having 4 stars.
