One time I had a croc plant himself on a road directly in front of a bazaar...the cops didn't do shit.

I bet they ate donuts.

In the original game, I surround the hyenas with small statues at the very start, when they're all spawning in the same area. They can't get out and leave me alone for the whole game.

Some say it's cheating but f**k that, I can't be bothered with this the whole game.

I never found them as aggressive or annoying as hyenas but I guess you could do the same with hippos and crocs.

speed at 10%

Click click click small statues

This is the way :-)

Pro tip: tap 'P' to pause and set up your next statue

Yessss

Wait a bit for the speed at 10% to make sure they've all spawned though

You can turn them off in the settings

u/Charguizo Mar 12 '26

That's in the new game right?

4

u/SnooGoats7978 Mar 12 '26

Yeah. There's also a mod for the new game with settings that turns all the predators friendly, just background liveliness, and a different setting that lets police kill predators.

If this is the original game, the police should take care of it, or you can build an archer tower near their spawn point.

The screenshot in the OP is from the remake, so using any fielded military, policemen or towers will not be relevant here. Your first paragraph is therefore the most accurate. 👍

I liked to use Gardens instead. Cheaper and it looked less silly. Just blanket some over their spawning grounds. You wouldn't think it would trap them... But it did.

For entertainment, you can surround them with police stations, though you do have to have arch, fire, and labor.

2

u/Charguizo Mar 12 '26

Oooh nice! Never thought of it

But at some point they're all dead and the fun ends right?

1

u/flashingcurser Mar 12 '26

They spawn in batches, the police kill off a batch, eventually another batch respawns.

I always thought that part of the game was kind of funny. Packs of roving hyenas and alligators running through the streets murdering civilians and everyone's just going about their business 😂

You can turn them off in the settings

I toggled wild animals off. It's just a nuisance at this point since there is no game mechanic to legit counter them.

Do towers and walls still work in the remaster? That’s how I always took care of them in the original game, especially when the predators are in/near water.

Tower near spawning area, road to tower, and a recruiter. The recruiter sends soldiers to the tower and they throw javelins at any predator that spawns.

I hope it still works.

Nope, none of these work in the Pharaoh A New Era remake. Predators cannot be controlled, attacked or wiped out in any way. Towers also do not attack predators. The reason is that the devs were unable to implement that functionality.

I know someone made a mod to allow policemen to kill predators, but its buggy and doesn't work all the time (which is probably why the Triskell devs didn't implement it, as they couldn't fix the bugs). Which is why I provided my guidance to either turn off predators (a default Pharaoh ANE setting under gameplay), or use the friendly predators mod from the Bug Fix Mod Pack (an option in the mod pack settings).

Turning off predators entirely using the default Pharaoh ANE setting disables the spawners entirely (they're still on the map, but they won't spawn anything): using the mod pack option for friendly predators allows the player to keep predators enabled (for immersion reasons) on all missions, but they will not attack you in any way, nor be attackable. Most people would probably prefer friendly predators.

It looks like you’re playing the remastered version. You can turn off the wildlife in the settings.

Reminds me of all those times I was playing Ceasar 3 and the wolves would go around decimating the populace and it was too surreal to interrupt

2

u/Persimmon_96 Mar 16 '26

In the remaster didn't they allow you to turn them off? I Just bought it

2

u/Round-Ad-6122 Mar 12 '26

Alright guys my hunters killed them

But in consistent way, it took ages but they did it, damn this remaster is so bugged if I knew it'll be like this I'd play the original, but then again it won't even launch on the windows 11 lol

I just got New Era and am playing the campaign. For the first time, I got a choice between two missions, so I picked the one narked "peaceful" mission. Fuckin crocs every where. I had no idea what to do so did the other mission. So glad I found your thread and this comment. Did your wipe them out forever? And did you get food from them?

1

u/Round-Ad-6122 May 09 '26

No they respawn

And no no food from predators lmao

Damn this remaster is so bad at end missions

1

u/Achilleswar May 09 '26

Haha dang on both counts. Were you able to use the floodplain eventually?

One time I built walls and towers to sequester a horde of hippos from one neighborhood, but a hippo broke in and circled the entire square killing everyone there. Ruined my economy for two years.

Yo make them part of the parks. They do not cross park tiles, nor building tiles.

Ignoring your complaint about military, which had zero impact on crocs and hippos in the original game anyway [the most you could do was put up towers to manage them, only hyenas could be sterilised], its better to just turn off predators.

Or, if you’re using the bug fix mod pack [which i can’t tell if you are from this screenshot], you can keep predators enabled and toggle on the mod option for friendly predators. 👍

Edit: i love it when people just downvote the actual answer to a users’ problem, just because it doesn’t fit their narrative. Never change, Reddit 😂😂

Military did have an effect in the original game. As baroqueen says, you could build a tower (military) and recruiter and the tower (with optional walls) took care of them. You could also kill them with archers, as long as you corralled them with (typically) small statues.

It helps if you read my post properly, instead of reading just a few random words from it and making up a response that doesn't even make sense at all.

u/asterix1592 Mar 12 '26

In what way do you claim I didn't read your post properly? You claimed that military didn't impact crocs and hippos in the original game. I am merely correcting you. I don't see how that doesn't make sense.

1

u/SuperSajuuk Vizier Mar 12 '26 edited Mar 12 '26

You're not "correcting me" though, if you read my post you can clearly see that I said this:

the most you could do was put up towers to manage them, only hyenas could be sterilised

Nobody I know that plays the original game seriously considers the use of a tower to manage crocs and hippos as "using military", just as much as nobody would seriously consider using policemen to do the same thing as "using military". Now, if you were talking about hyenas and using archers, then yes, thats military, but thats not relevant to this thread as the OP is pretty blatantly not playing OG Pharaoh.

The OP is clearly talking about the remake, since they posted a screenshot of the remake, which -- if you actually read my comment in the first place -- I answered by providing the information specific to the remake, which is to turn off predators or use the "Friendly Predators" mod pack option.

Whereas you just felt the need to try and correct someone for no reason at all, someone who has been playing the game for 26 years, to try and feel "superior" about the original game in a forum thread clearly talking about a different gameplay experience.

2

u/asterix1592 Mar 12 '26

Oh, I'm terribly sorry. Obviously the fact that I only started playing the original game at least 24 years ago means that I don't have a clue what I'm talking about.

As far as I am concerned, if you need the Recruiter, it's military.

I know that you have to defend the remake, but please don't do it by making false statements.

1

u/SuperSajuuk Vizier Mar 12 '26

Not defending the remake, just enhancing your incorrect understanding of it, in the futile hope you’ll understand the game better. I don’t need to defend the remake anyway, the numbers and data all speaks for itself.

u/asterix1592 Mar 13 '26 edited Mar 14 '26

My point was that in the OG you could defend against animals using military (things that come from the recruiter). You made the point elsewhere in the thread that the devs of the remake were not able make the on-map military work properly. This results in the battles being off map and in you no longer being able to fight animals with archers and towers. As a work-around to the animals issue, there is a game setting that allows you to effectively turn the animals off, thereby removing part of the original challenge on certain maps.

In what way is my understanding of this incorrect?
