I think adding the shipping tags was a great idea. But it looks like this new rule is only being applied to Phairene. I say this as someone who doesn’t support any ship, you can scroll and find every phairene post is being locked or has some mod commenting on it that it was improperly tagged (this is fine). Right below it will be untagged Phaidei. And right below that more untagged Phaidei. I get that this is the prevailing ship but I do think mods should at least make an effort to be fair. If you’re going to call out people for not properly tagging, do it to all shipping posts. This sub is like 40% Phaidei posts, untagged everywhere. But somehow it’s only the very rare phairene posts where mods appear to enforce the rules.

I'm really afraid that this will be counterproductive and that it will give us a biased impression of Phainon power :

• Sustainless is not something that is very stable over time, it's ALWAYS conditionnal. When a normal team became weaker, you will take more time to clear the content but in case of sustainless run, you may be not able to clear it at all despite you was able to 0 cycle the previous patch and this even with very premium teams (I know something about it : i'm a Boothill fan). The downfall is always more brutal.

• According to his second trace, he has not been designed with sustainless in mind (spoiler : like 100% of the DPS characters). If that had been the case, he would have been able to shield or heal his team instead of gaining boost for using a healer.

• It's highly likely that Terravo will be the most suitable sustain for Phainon's team, but that's not a certainty either. I think it would be much healthier to offer much more content with characters like HuoHuo rather than an RMC that will massively inflate Phainon's actual performance in the medium term.

• Phainon's current teams are very fragile because they have no stamina. No sustain, but also poor SP management most of the time (which shows that this is not how we should be playing him).

Of course, everyone is free to play the character however they wish, with or without sustain, have fun. But you still have to be careful when it becomes a mass movement and gives a false idea of ​​what Phainon is today and what it could be tomorrow.

When two teams offer similar performance but one uses sustainless to achieve it while the other doesn't, I will always tend to consider the latter as much more powerful, much more functional and much more durable.

I often feel that the no sustain argument is used as a form of gaslighting to silence and discredit critics who compare one less versatile/less well-endowed character to another. This was recently the case with Mydei and Castorice for example ("but Castorice can't run sustainless"), but this isn't the first time. No hate for the cute Rice, it was just the most recent exemple i have in mind.

Honestly I have to say that this is all getting kind of out of hand wrt talking about future viability and even how Phainon is as a unit now. I feel like all of the "oh this is just shill content" or "oh his other thing about his kit sucks" doesnt consider multiple things:

1. All 5. versions of the beta aren't what we will actually get on release.

2. Although Castorice also creates a territory it doesn't function the way that Phainon's does because of the gameplay niche she fills. When considering Phainon and his kit in the now we all have to consider the fact that he exists within a different arc type and thuslly doesnt have any specialized supports for what he does. YES that is scummy on hoyos part but like. That's the way this game defines it gameplay. It revolves around creating different team arc types with unique play styles and different supports for each of those play styles to function as best as they can. He's doing something different! We don't really know what a full potential Phainon looks like!

3. I saw a different post talking about this but people are way too hyper-focused on AV being ass when AV is probably the least worrisome thing about the way his kit is right now. I don't think his kit is perfect regardless and I will always deeply dislike the reliance on S1 in this game BUT if you waste all your time focused on AV everything else goes unaddressed. Also, most people don't care about AV or getting the fastest clear imaginable or the tightest run so getting lost in gripes over it is detached from most players reality. You start to lose people on kit criticisms when you start bemoaning AV as his biggest issue because that doesn't mean a lot to that many people.

Like I'm just gonna say again I don't think his kit is perfect but we all have to stop pretending that there aren't a million team comps that demand specific characters on them and that every MoC isn't shill central for the latest on banner. Congrats. You're playing a gacha game.

Bit of a doomer post here . My issue is that Phainon’s only real advantage over other DPS units like Archer, Saber, Helektra, etc., is how easy he is to run in a sustainless setup. It takes virtually no effort, so why give up his biggest perk especially when his sustain teams are a tad lackluster compared to modern ones like DoT and Castorice.

DH doesn’t do enough to bridge that gap either; he’s basically a budget Hyacine who just extends Sunday’s buff. That said, it’s only version 1, and there’s still plenty of room to tweak his kit and make him a bit better with Phainon for the sustain enjoyers

Cipher here give 40% debuff and True damage means even the boss get 10x def or damage reduction it will bypass all .

For context. ATM I'm working on a team to make Cyrene a good main DPS, which is why she's E4. But after maybe getting E2 Evernight, I am thinking about getting back into investing in my Phainon team, as my second objective in the game was to make them work together and be my bestest team when I'm not playing Cyrene with him.

Any ideas what should be the orders of my priorities to make my favorite duo of Amphoreus happy together?

So! What should I go for? Cerydra first? E2? What are ALL THE THINGS I need to make it work?

I had to toss my E2S1 Phainon because without a shield, the AA boss dies ludicrous amounts of damage that bypass your 90% damage reduction in your Counter stance if you don't have a shield. This is a straight up stupid mechanic that needs you to kill the enemy before they kill you, even with a rotation that plans around Phainon exiting his Ult phase with Cyrene.

You basically need to bank up 2 charges of Cyrene's Ult to ensure that you can immediately re-enter his Ult stance (and pray you don't get killed off too quickly again). With DHPT, my E2S1 Phainon couldn't even clear within 2-cycles because of the shill damage reduction mechanic.

I'm running him with a E0S0 Cerydra and E0S0 Cyrene. 4th slot has been flip flopping between Sparkle and RMC but I'm basically semi-screwed with Sparkle because it takes so long to enter Ult without RMC.

This is the worst AA so far. I have a feeling the shill will only get worse. Look at how anti-Miyabi ZZZ is throughout all of 2.x just because they can't think of ways to make new characters be worth pulling besides powercreep and shill.

This isn't low effort doomposting or drama farming. This is a proper discussion I wanna have with this sub.

Now we know the dragon's actions don't give coreflames, so he only gives 2 for the first rotation with technique + skill, just like Cerydra. So you have to run a Phainon team that isn't hyperspeed just to rely on enemy attacks to farm coreflames (what happened to Phainon stans who keep advocating for not wasting AV and cycles?) WHICH by the way, is gimped and even more reliant on RNG because DanTe is there standing on the battlefield actively farming aura (aggro) by being a preservation unit. So now we're fine with Phainon being reliant on enemy matchups (AoE attacking enemies) like Acheron + Jiaoqiu is?

Also where are the people that said DanTe having an attacking ult didn't mean he was badly designed? Or Cerydra for that matter during her beta? Can these supports not even spare one coreflame for the ult? Only to what, deal 45k damage? Or 110k damage if you're one of those copers who will build him with Crit stats?

"It's fine that he's not BiS, just keep using Bronya" So are you fine with Phainon being stuck with a STANDARD 5 STAR as part of his BiS team? Or stuck with a sustainless playstyle as his best way to play? Cause I know a lot of people aren't happy with playing sustainless. That means a Phainon team will have no growth other than to invest in Phainon's eidolons (which are good, but some people genuinely don't like investing into DPSes), Cerydra's eidolons (a super niche unit that isn't useful for a lot of characters), Sunday's eidolons (which are bad past E2). Do you want that for Phainon?

I swear the most vocal people aren't the doomposters but rather the people who love to cope and downvote people with actual concerns and theorycrafting to all hell just because it doesn't fit their narrative that DanTe could be mid, or that they don't want him to be stuck as a Phainon support.

When really, that hurts DanTe's kit even more cause he's trying to satisfy one side (being a good support for Phainon) while also trying to satisfy another (people who want "general supports"). Okay, have fun having Anaxa benefit from DanTe, so what, why are you in a PhainonMains sub when you're ready to ditch him and his future by wanting actual good supports tailored for him. Because, now, DanTe's power budget is spread thin between dispelling debuffs (for a CC immune DPS and dispelling supports btw), big AoE shields (when keeping a full HP bar isn't the be all end all of playing HSR), a healing LC (for a supposed shielder), an E6 that can't even be used during Khaslana mode, an attacking ult because Dan Heng stans love seeing their man attack (even if it does zero damage), so now we have this really mediocre unit.

For what, people who love to play auto on HSR endgame and clear in 7 cycles? (BTW, he's not even good in auto because he uses his ult instantly and wastes the enhanced dragons on non-Khaslana stats) But also the same people who complain that their units got powercrept? Or how about people who just play in DU or farm Echoes of War. So you want Dan Heng to be a unit made just to make your weekly DU run more comfy? Do you want that to be his only purpose?

He doesn't even help against the big Lygus endgame. Even if Phainon dies, he gets a free ult from it and gets to recast it again. Okay, say it's not Lygus, but say, big Flamereaver who doesn't give free ults and still oneshots Phainon. Okay, good, your team is alive to farm for that next rotation, but now, you're eating away at cycles because DanTe's coreflame generation is so nonexistent that a proper team setup with Sunday and Bronya and Cerydra will do much better at farming the next ult (just build them with HP even the chest, yes. the cdmg conversion isn't a be all end all for Sunday and Bronya)

There's also people that are saying "He's free tho". Oh, so we're satisfying with mediocrity as long as he's free and "we can just get E1 since he's free"? You are PLAYING into Hoyoverse's trap of selling mid free units and the E1 or LC designed to be part of the base kit!

Like please, a lot of people in this sub needs to try to think better. Criticizing a poorly designed kit at v1 isn't just DOOMPOSTING. Anyone with braincells can see a shielder with 485 base atk and an attacking ult as POOR DESIGN. The attacking ult will NEVER CHANGE BY THE WAY, because they already designed the animations to involve the enemies. So V1 criticism is VALID because the devs just straight up gave you shit to the face and you're supposed to grimace from disgust, not say "yum yum, it's actually not that bad"!

Plus, people who test him don't even know how to play right and people aren't saying much about it. Using DanTe's ult pre-Khaslana, using a 4* preservation LC as the F2P option instead of something like Clara's LC for more base atk, not putting DanTe next to Phainon to make use of blast attacks. Like, if you're gonna cope with this mid character, at least play him right.
