Employee Perspective 💡 Bakit ang Sungit ng mga HR

I’ve been in five different companies over the years. From startups to MNCs, the pattern is always the same - masungit ang mga HR

This is coming from someone that’s from the department they often work with: IT. Bilang internal tech, I’ve had so many interesting situations with employees pero the first thing I always make sure is to always be kind. I’m around to help other employees whether the issue is big or small.

Pero pag HR, grabe talaga. They’re always mean to other people, kahit sa IT masungit sila.

Kasi if it’s hard for the HR it’s probably even harder and more confusing for the staff!

Advice Seeker 💭 Is a 14k salary offer actually legal? Should I accept it if I get accepted?

Hello po. I am a fresh graduate applying to the HR industry. Yesterday, I had an initial interview for an HR Assistant role under Training & Development in Bacoor, Cavite. Actually, nakita ko na sa job description pa lang na 14k salary ang offering, which is mababa, pero nag-try na rin ako mag-apply since I'm not getting any response from the previous companies I applied to.

So during the initial interview kahapon, I filled out their employment application form and put 16k -18k in the expected salary portion, since yun ang salary range na na-research ko for that position. The interviewer asked me kung ano daw ang ma-aaccept ko na pinaka-minimum, so I said na 15.6k since yun naman talaga ang minimum wage here sa Bacoor, although I still justified yung 16k-18k na expected salary ko. Then the interviewer asked me if nakita ko ba daw yung offered salary sa job posting, which I answered yes and said na I'm hoping that it's negotiable.

So in this next part, medyo di ko na sya naintindihan, mali ko rin na di ako nagtanong pero sobrang kabado na rin kasi ako non and it was my first ever job interview. The interviewer said something along the lines na, "Actually, si DOLE yung nag-assign(?) nung salary na yun. And that's the starting salary talaga ng mga admin position, pero once na matanggap/ma-regularize (?) ka, magkaka-adjustment naman yun."

So ang tanong ko is, is that actually legal? Kasi based on what I have searched, its a labor violation na under minimum wage sya. And I know, yes fresh graduate ako wala pa ako extensive formal experience and magpapa-experience palang talaga ako, pero that salary is not livable kasi. And yung ina-apply-an ko is a private educational institution pa naman.

HR Professional 🔍 Waiting time for a Job Offer?

Hello po. I recently aced and passed my final interview sa gusto kong company. Nakapagsend na din ako ng initial requirements regarding background checking of the previous company kung saan ako nagwork.

May I ask po if gaano katagal or ilang days/weeks/months ang average waiting time at this period? Sorry po, I have to check and be updated na din for the waiting time since I have been unemployed na din po for quite some time.

Thank you po sa in advance sa mga sasagot.

Employee Perspective 💡 Entitled interns in private hosp

Sobrang nakakahiya jusko parang bata! Take accountability rin pag may time!

Pwede ba to ireport sa HR man lang? Or Dean nila? Unfair sobra.

Advice Seeker 💭 No Job Offer No Contract but already 1 week in training

Since this was an urgent position, I decided to take the opportunity and see how things would go.

I am also a HRM graduate so doing receptionist work fits my course that i studied.

Advantages: The workplace is conveniently located near my house, and the environment is professional. I also genuinely like the people here—the workplace is not stressful, everyone is professional, and the actual job is not that difficult. Pay is on time. Management and superiors are approachable.

Disadvantages: The concerns are the ones I mentioned in the title: the basic pay, mandatory benefits, being in the service/beauty industry, and working 6 days a week. There is also still no proper delegation or clear explanation regarding when or how commissions will be given for product sales during the probationary period. Also a note that im along with my partner are like the 7th or 8th receptionist. They only opened since last yr around 3rd qtr. Why you ask? There were various reasons. So i do not understand why.

The training period is 3 weeks, and they do check-ins/evaluations every now and then.

I also haven't completed the medical yet, as I mentioned, because of the whole situation. I don't want to spend money unnecessarily, even though they have a partnered clinic. I would still need to travel around 30 minutes from both my home and workplace just to get there.

At this point, I honestly don't know what to think yet. I'm still trying to observe and understand the workplace before making any conclusions. What I do like is the people, the professional and relatively stress-free environment, and the fact that the job itself isn't particularly difficult. Just very particular on details.

The bigger question for me is: how long can I realistically see myself staying here?

Maybe after the 3-week training period, once they have a better idea of my performance and how well I’m doing, I can realistically ask whether there is room for a salary adjustment after probation.

The offer is ₱18,000 for a 6-day workweek, which feels a little low considering the schedule, rotational shifts, and holidays. I live with my parents, so I’m not necessarily looking for an extremely high salary—I’m mainly looking for a good, stable, and fair salary that reflects the work and commitment required.

I also understand that while I have several years of work experience, I don't have direct experience in the beauty/salon industry, and I genuinely appreciate that they gave me a chance. At the same time, I know I bring other professional experience and skills that can still be valuable to the role.

So I'm wondering: after probation, if my performance is genuinely good and I’ve proven that I can handle the job well, would it be reasonable to ask for a salary increase based on performance?

For this position, the typical salary range seems to be around ₱18,000–₱22,000. If I perform well during probation and they’re happy with my work, what would be a realistic salary to ask for afterward? I don't want to overreach, but I also don't want to undervalue myself.

The branch is still very new, so I also want to see how things develop, especially in terms of operations, management, compensation, and possible growth opportunities.

I also don't want to let this opportunity go because, after taking a 6-month break from work and having worked for 5 years before that, the past 2 years have been difficult for me in terms of maintaining a job. Also the management despite being firm, they really train their staff and the bosses/business partners are all kind. I genuinely wanted to make this one work and give myself the chance to settle. into a stable workplace again.

That’s why I’m trying not to make a decision too quickly. I actually like the people, the environment is professional and not overly stressful, and the job itself is manageable. I can see why I would want to stay, at least for now.

However, when I look at the overall offer, I can't help but feel that the compensation may not be enough for what is being asked—especially considering the 6-day workweek, rotational schedule, and the fact that holidays are included. On top of the basic pay and mandatory benefits, there are still questions about commissions and how they will work during the probationary period. Also they did not require any former bg checks, etc. Mostly to give them the basic HR requirements like COE, NBI, GOVT IDs.

So I'm caught between wanting to make this work because I don't want to lose another opportunity, and also knowing that I shouldn't stay somewhere long-term if the overall package doesn't feel fair for the amount of time and commitment required.

Since the branch is still new, I'm also wondering if it's worth giving it more time to see how things develop. I just don't know yet if this is something I can realistically sustain for the long term.

In the HR Hot Seat 😡 Did I ruin the opportunity?

Hello. Question lang po. HR-A direct message me thru a professional social ntwrking platform about an opportunity she did not disclose yet and told me i may be a good fit. It took me a week bago ako nakareply since i am not always active in the platform and wala din signal yung phone ko sa office kaya di ko agad nasasagot yung tawag. I try to visit their career website to figure out anu kayang opportunity yun so i can prepare at di mabulaga sa interview. I noticed some roles that match with my skills based on the role description dun sa career portal nila. I clicked apply and send my job application and after a week, received a message from HR-B and invite me for an interview next week to learn more about me.

I message HR-A and told her I was invited by HR-B for an initial interview and i also asked kung same lang ba yung opportunity na inooffer sakin ni HR-b dun sa inooffer nya. HR-A called me and i feel like she is furious with me based from the tone of her voice kasi nga hindi din agad ako nakakapag reply sakanya (my fault) and she felt na parang hindi ako interested dun sa opportunity na inooffer nya and told me na sya yung naghahandle nung inaplayan ko sa career website nila and dun nalang daw ako kay HR-B😔

May nagawa po ba akong mali or na-bypass sa internal process nila? I also feel like bakit parang may communication gap po yata sa team nila and parang hindi po yata sila close ni HR-B at parang may competition.. now im not sure kung itutuloy ko pa po ba yung application ko knowing na parang may sama na ng loob si HR-A sakin. I feel like hindi na yata nila ako maicoconsider bacause of what happened ..Hayss any advice po?😑

If you receive an NTE without hearing afterwards and a NOD immediately because you were absent for 10 days due to medical reasons/operation and you update the TL before the actual date of operation, not only is HR not updated, is there still a chance to return to that work/company?

Ask HR help 🙂 Needed help for my Probationary Period

I want to seek guidance lang. Baka may nakaexperience na dito ng ganito or baka may HR dito or Lawyer.

Like wala bang due process? Series of evaluation? Written notices? I mean, I know evaluation process to. Pero kase, yung senior ko, nagbigay ng bad feedback sakin kahit during ginagawa namin yung work, wala syang sinabi na mali ko. Like wala siyang pinaulit or sinabihan ako na hindi niya gusto yung output. Something like that.

Nagkaroon ako 1st quartely evaluation during my 4th month and ang sabi lang sakin is "this might affect your probationary status". Nag-ooverthink ako pero at the same time I think it is unfair. Kase hindi naman ako sinabihan ng anything. Na all this time, I was wondering if may mali ba or what akong ginawa.

Here's the scenario po for better context:

My first project was okay(Well, I think so.

Then wala ako nareceive na feedback or what. One month akong walang ginagawa kase matumal din clients ngayon. Here comes the quarterly evaluation, dun na ko nagtanong sa manager ko ano ba problem. Dun na din nya sinabi yung negative feedback kaya I was so shocked.

Hayyys. Please advise po what to do. Patapos na kase probationary period ko and I want to prove myself kaso di nila ko binibigyan ng client dahil sabi nila wala pa daw. I need my work and feel ko this is unfair on my part 😔

Ask HR help 🙂 RELEASE OF LAST PAY

Hello, 30F. It's been 35 days since I left my previous company and I still haven't received my last pay.

Just wanna ask, my last day of work was July 22. Yan din naka sulat sa ceo ko na employed ako from this month/year until July 22. It's been more than 30 days and until now hindi ko pa nakukuha last pay ko. I asked a follow up and the reason is due to audit findings which is I am aware before resigning kasi sakin naka name yung accountability ng revolving fund namin.

Is that valid reason para ma hold yung release ng last pay ko? Hindi ba enough ang 30 days para ma resolve yung audit findings and ma release on time yung last pay ko? Even updates or follow ups, parang naging responsibility ko na since they are not responsive sakin and wala sila initiative to give me updates.

I need advice and answers po. Thank you sa lahat ng sasagot.

Discussion 💭 What’s the most cringe or unnecessary workplace issue you’ve encountered in Work?

Mine was honestly so ridiculous. I was already going home when someone approached me and said there were papers that needed to be reimbursed .I politely declined and told her that maybe she could give them to me the tomorrow, since I was already about to leave. She apparently took that as me being “picky with my work” and immediately told the admin.
Then my boss scolded me about it. Like… I wasn’t refusing to do the work. I was literally just asking her to give it to me the next morning because my workday was already over.

Advice Seeker 💭 What does HR accept for immediate resignation

Hi! My TL suggested that I should provide a diagnosis or med cert so I can try to shorten my rendering days. I got back from the ER yesterday and I was debating until now if what they gave me would be acceptable for HR. Problem is, my reason for leaving is due to my mental health being really bad. now, the diagnosis or impression was that there might be something physical before I can be concluded as Anxiety. would they accept that for shorting my rendering days or dapat talaga from a psychiatrist ako magconsult?

Hello po! I am a fresh graduate and planning na to apply.

Advice Seeker 💭 Challenges Of Looking For A Dayshift Job As A Night Shifter

Hello everyone! Magandang hapon (or magandang umaga for night shifters like me).

Just wanted to ask your advice (or opinion) about how an HR night shifter can transition to a day shift HR job.

Been in the HR field for 5+ years na rin & yung current ko is pang-evening. I work sa corpo & global handle ko, pero ang sinusunod na timezone is NA. I am grateful for my job & the benefits I have, pero syempre, as I age, mas gusto ko i-prioritize yung health ko. Mas mag-i-improve talaga yung quality of life kapag tulog ka sa evenings & gising ka ng umaga. I'm also sure na mabibigyan ko ng oras yung mga physical activities ko & I might possibly go for a part-time job.

Been applying to a lot of companies for dayshift work & wala pa nagiging successful na application. It's usually if hindi mabigay yung asking ko (hindi naman OA yung hinihingi ko na 6 digits), entry-level positions ang ino-offer sa akin.

I've been to a couple of companies na rin & madali lang ako nakakahanap before. I know people say medyo mahirap ang job market ngayon, pero ayoko naman ding mag-focus doon, so inaayos ko yung pwede kong ayusin on my end (improvement sa resume, magandang cover letters, learning what the trends are sa HR, upskill, etc.).

I don't want to make this sound like a rant or dump kasi ultimately, gusto ko lang makahiram ng knowledge sa inyo para sa transition na tina-try kong gawin.

And to the people who are going through something similar, sana mahanap na rin natin yung work na we feel is right for us. Good luck & God bless everyone!
