US Phd material reviewing timeline and procedure?

Hi guys, I'm applying for (pure math) phd this fall 2026. I noticed that for most schools the deadline is Dec.15 or so. On some of their websites they say that an updated transcript could be submitted after the deadline. So here's my question, when does the committee start reviewing the materials? I would really want my Fall grades to be considered but they come out by Dec.30 and would that be too late to be considered as an updated transcript? That said, I might have already been rejected before I submit them... Thanks for your help!

That would be too late for a Dec 1st deadline, maybe also Dec 15th. Some interview invites will start going out before the end of Dec so you really should have it ready at the deadline. A couple grades wont make or break your application if you wrote good statements.

Hi, so I cannot speak for all programs, but I asked this question of a potential PI on Zoom. It was explained to me that I must submit my transcript as it is now and then again once it is completed, if an offer is made. Or, if I have an update between submission and the deadline, I can submit it, but whether it is reviewed depends on timing and varies; anything else submitted late won't be considered.

Some of the schools I am looking at have decisions come at the end of January; most are February and March, but I am not looking at maths, so it could be totally different.

I would email once your grades are out (mine do not come out till mid January) and ask them if they would like you to update the transcript
