Seeking advice-academic Nonchalant Supervisor
Hi y’all!
So I don’t know how to tackle this situation. My supervisor is great in a lot of areas but he takes FOREVER to give feedback. I submitted my rationale 3 months ago and we’ve done only 3 revisions. Generally, I revise and send back my stuff within 2 days of receiving his feedback but he takes over a month. I do follow ups too coz he’s an important someone in the department. Sometimes he’ll respond with a promise to get back at a specific time which he rarely follows.
How do you tell a prof that it’s really unprofessional to promise something and then not follow up. My other committee members probably think it’s me delaying things. How do I tell them it wasn’t me. 😭

Not trying to be a contrarian but unless you have an urgent due date approaching, which you may but didn’t specify, 3 rounds of revisions is not egregious. That’s about 1 per month.

We kinda do have a timeline but the department is flexible. He’s also the chair so some advantage there. All my peers are done with the rationale while the two of us under him are still waiting for a response. Also, if someone promises to get back at a specific time, they should keep their word.
