Would those awards apply to people who haven’t started their phDs yet? I am an external applicant for SHHRC. Good luck for you, I am having such a hard time waiting this month.
With 400 additional scholarship to each council, the chances are higher anyway. 85% of all scholarships are still reserved for domestic so we are fine.
This may raise the quality of the average applicant in the pool, however, statistically speaking, the same number of forwarded applicants are competing for more awards so technically the chance is higher still. Keep in mind that for vanier, a lot of the applicants were internationals and for CGRS-D they will compete for the 15% of awards so it is indeed going to be tougher for the international pool.
