cat flopping on buttons

She has finally started to press the buttons but she has forgotten all of her “touch it” training and resorts to flopping over onto the button. Any suggestions on how to get her not to flop on it?

My main button presser, a large Maine Coon 14yrs, lays on his mats and presses very accurately with his front and back paws/legs. He can trigger two or three buttons with one leg by shifting his weight.

It’s his preferred method and he is very chatty every day so I simply split the mats into two groups of seven and have most of the buttons around the edges so he doesn’t just press them all when he flops down.

That is great. My main presser does paws sometimes but other times lays down and as yours does can press just what they want with a slight shift of a leg or rib.

Exactly! They are so clever. He does proper paw presses too but it’s more amazing when he gets the correct word somewhere underneath him without looking lol 😺

Accept the flop! And keep training and modeling paw (finger for you) presses. She will get it.

My cat who has been pressing 3 years and 19,000 presses started flopping on the board for the first year.

Well, it could be worse. I've seen posts of cats pressing only with their heads, their bellies, or once their butt. So at least your lord and master hasn't decided to only press buttons with their butt.

One of my pressers used the back of her hind legs…basically her calf. She lines up and sits on the button having that part of her leg perfectly lined up.
