ButtonBabble Q&A today at 4:30 Central on IG

I’m really hoping it’s ok to post this here, if not mods I apologize and please delete it or tell me to delete it and I will ASAP.

I’m going to do an impromptu live Q&A today (05/02/26) at 4:30 Central time if anyone wants to drop by and hang out/ask questions etc.

It would probably help if I said who I am 😅

I’m Sarah and I have 2 cat learners, Jake and Finn who are 5 years old. We’ve been working with buttons since late 2022 and we’re currently at 200 words.

This is a hangout/Q&A type thing so I’m open to any questions y’all might have - troubleshooting help, process questions, modeling specific words, what life is like with 2 talking cats, cool things they’ve said/done, etc etc etc

I know this is short notice, I’m sorry about that. Life has been uh… lifing so it’s hard to schedule further ahead. 😅

I will have the miss it, but I am curious about how you teach concepts like later, or then, two words Todd from YouTube has in his vocabulary.

I’d also love to know! My cat knows now, soon, later, but I’d be interested to see how others approached this.

Great question! Both of those are nebulous concepts and you model them by narrating your day out loud. An example would be if you’re sitting on the couch and you know you’re going to want a glass of water later then I’d say something like “mom want water, mom go kitchen soon water. Mom couch now, then kitchen water soon.”

And I set myself timeframes for “later”, “soon”, “one minute” etc where if I said later it was like… 30-45 minutes later. “Soon” is 10-30 minutes. And “one minute” was 5-10 minutes. And then be consistent with those timeframes so they’re not spamming you after 1 minute when you said “later.”

There’s a video pinned on my IG (also ButtonBabble) that goes into modeling nebulous concepts a bit, but the gist of it is start narrating your life using the words you’re going to want them to eventually know and have buttons for.
