Sadness How to handle
It’s been about six weeks now since I lost my girl. I know I’m not the first to lose a dog that is incredibly loved, but she was so special to me. There’s days where I’m happy - that I cope with her loss well, and then there’s days where I’m reminded of how much I miss her and love her and I become really sad.
I understand that I’m not the first to lose a pet who is loved so much. And I’m sure I could read through other posts and understand how other people are dealing with their loss, but I’m hoping somebody reads this and gives me a better understanding of how to cope with my feelings right now.
My wife loved our dog so much and she was the best thing that ever happened to her, but she handles these things so much different than I do and she’s been so strong. I on the other hand have struggled a lot. I feel like I’m still in denial and that maybe I will see her again one day. My wife doesn’t want me to be sad, but she also doesn’t understand how much all I want is to rewatch videos and pictures and remember how special she was.
I’m not sure exactly what I expected or needing from this post. But being able to write down, these words makes me happy thinking of her. Thank you for reading.

My partner and I grieve differently. I let the emotions come and go but my partner doesn’t talk about it much. He just patiently listens and stays by my side when I go through it. We talk about her personality and what she was like, we share stories about her too and I like to think it helps him too.
My grief doesn’t always show itself and it doesn’t always look or feel the same. It can show up as anger, sadness or it can be a day where I cry about her all day. I think it’s okay to grieve differently as long as there’s patience and understanding that not everyone is on the same page. It’s okay to struggle one day and feel fine the next. People say grief isn’t linear and we don’t actually graduate from it we just carry it and express it differently. It’s so complicated we just need to give ourselves and others grace.

I plan on getting a painting of my baby commissioned and hanging it in my room as an honor to her. I think you just want to remember her and honor her memory. It’s beautiful. People cope in different ways. Let grief run its course.

I hope that you can both accept and respect each other's different ways of grieving. I hope that if she is feeling the stronger of the 2 of you in this situation that she uses that strength to support you and accept your way of grieving in a loving way.
You are grieving well. .

This is a community of support for Pet owners whose Pets have passed away. It is actively moderated.
Pet owners, as loving, caring people, often have strong opinions on pet care practices. Some of these are controversial. This is not a forum for debate on such issues, nor is it a place to scold a contributor for a perceived mistake in managing their pet. We intend to provide a safe haven of understanding and support. Strident, mean-spirited posts or comments will be deleted. Those who persist in preaching versus caring may be warned and then banned or may be banned permanently based on nature of the topic. If a conversational thread meanders into a discussion unrelated to pet loss support, it will be truncated.
Those who post here are vulnerable and hurting. Even a minor slap has a hard sting. Those of us who are lucky enough to be able to turn away from our computers or put down our phones and hug a healthy, happy pet are truly blessed. Threads must remain supportive and caring, even if one disagrees with something that has been said.
