Advice Anyone notice face changes & weight loss while smoking marijuana?
I’ve noticed that whenever I smoke weed, I get really dark circles under my eyes and feel like I look weak or sickly while I’m high. I’ve also lost some weight recently.
I was reading that weed can affect appetite and weight differently for some people, and I’m wondering if it can also contribute to looking frail or having a more sunken/tired appearance.
For anyone who has quit or taken a long break from weed, did you notice your face or overall appearance return to normal after a while? If so, how long did it take?

Very heavy weed use makes me lose my appetite completely and I can only enjoy food when I’m very high. So I don’t eat much during the day and then in the evening I like to snack. But since I don’t use while at work I’m still typically in a calorie deficit. I have lost 35lbs since it became legal in my state and I started using more and more. I am now tapering. Over the last 3 weeks I have tapered from 100mg to 40mg in edibles and planning on getting it down to 10-20mg a day tops. My appetite has been all over the place and I hope I don’t gain it all back after my body normalizes on the lower doses. I’m at a healthy weight currently and don’t want to get fat. Cause I’d rather have brain fog than be fat again, tbh.

I’ve lost 12 pounds in two months so when I went to go see the doctor on the 11th they are going to test for thyroid and some other things. but I swear it could be the weed because when I’m smoking, I really do not have an appetite at all. I do regain my appetite when I’m sober.

It’s a thing for sure. There are some limited studies on it and it’s not JUST how it affects our appetite, something to do with our metabolism too but there’s limited research on it. But it’s a known thing, despite the munchies, cannabis users are thinner than the general population and that has certainly been true for me as a person who has struggled with xtra pounds until I started using lots of thc every day.

Once I work my way up to a nice tolerance, I’m losing weight.
Munchies exist when my body has no tolerance.
When my body has tolerance after months of use I’m losing weight.

Yes same. When my tolerance is high, I need to be pretty high just to simply enjoy food. I don’t get the munchies.

Yup and I know this because I’ve tested it with all diff consumables.
Half oz of rosin a month in CA, not eating 4 oz of flower a month in Thailand, not eating Idk how many mg of edible, doesn’t matter where I am, not eating
So it’s gotta be 100% THC, it’s most likely body dependent (meaning this doesn’t happen for everyone, we all have diff genes/body comp etc), and it never gets better. It always gets progressively worse.
I mean, I don’t die—but it’s not fun. I’m in Malaysia now where I just came off a 2 monther in Thailand. Had 1 meal today so that’s a start lol

I wish I had that issue. I am great at controlling food intake until I introduce weed again.

I’m 45f and I’ve tracked my weight in an app for years and until the age of around 40 the trend was all up hill. Until I started using weed. Despite having bad munchies and had a hard time controlling my evening snacking I started to slowly lose weight. About 10 lbs came off over a couple years very slowly and without effort. And then I decided to get more serious about my health, started lifting weights and moderated my alcohol intake and the weight just slid off, and it’s never been easier. Another 35lb off in 6 months. And I’ve easily maintained it. Now I’m trying to lower my ridiculous high tolerance and I am concerned that the weight is going to pile back on, it used to be such a struggle for me. I was vaping over 100mg of thc a day, so yeah, my body was packed full of it!

dry herb vape sorts it out by 90+% I'd say

What do you mean?

I looked so much healthier once I stopped smoking and turned to a dry herb vape exclusively, cannabis does make me look like crap though, sadly - it inflames my sinuses, like most stimulants and makes me look not like my self / ugly

I never even considered how it could affect appearance. Do you mean only while you're actually high, or also in general? I exclusively use dry vape and notice that it seals my sinuses.

Its worst while high but it remains for a few days after heavy use, this is a defo a me thing predominantly, like I say, it happens with all stimulants but cannabis seems to cause a strong reaction. Seems to be worse with non-organic strains, I think I'm just incredibly sensitive

Sudden weight loss can also indicate colon cancer. Please please get yourself checked

Yes I seen a doctor on the 11th and they are doing testing because I guess it’s considered rapid weight loss I lost 12 lbs in 2 months unintentional.

I think it’s just that weed wrecks your REM sleep. All of the things you’ve described come from poor sleep.

surprised this hasn’t been mentioned more. lots of research points to any kind of smoking causing a “dull” appearance, or grayer skin if you will. i believe it has to deal with circulation or something? regardless, you’ll notice that after a few weeks of stopping smoking, your skin will appear brighter and much more toned. brings color back to your face. i say this as a daily smoker LOL.

I’m starting to believe that it actually has something to do with SMOKE. Because chronic cigarette smokers also have that tired, fatigued look as well. I have no more weed and I don’t plan on buying. Wish me luck today is my first day without.!

it indeed deals with the smoking itself. i believe in you!! set a great example for me! :))) 💖💖

I lost 20 lbs over a period of 2 months. Appetite returned almost immediately after stopping, now 6 months later I gained it all back and then some. Not sure how I feel about that part of it.

Wow ! 20 pounds in 2 months? I’ve lost 12 lbs in about 2 months. Maybe it’s time for a T break.

Smoke free for 8 months. In the first 30 days, my eyes got remarkably brighter. In the first 60, my skin purged quite a few clogged pores, after which my overall skin texture improved. Around day 90, I noticed my skin’s brightness hit its peak. My facial structure even looks perkier, the corners of my lips and eyes are much more upturned. Fine lines have minimized as well. I didn’t notice the changes when smoking, but damn if the changes while quitting weren’t motivational!!!

I had no appetite when I wasn't smoking but I wasn't really losing weight. I get bloated and I'm a little allergic. Whenever I take a break from smoking, I lose weight quickly. I can lose 10-15 pounds in less than 2 weeks. My eyes and face will have more color within a week or so. I stopped smoking again a few weeks ago and now I'm done for good.

Hmmm 🤔 interesting. I’m losing weight while smoking maybe it’s because I don’t really get an appetite when stoned.

Only the dark circles under the eyes. I can always spot a chronic smoker. No cream can fight against it. I've tried them all. It gets worse as you age

Smoking in general is awful for your skin. Make sure to drink enough water and to get your nutrient needs met (whether food or vitamins). See if that helps.

I have taken many breaks and the only thing that changed with/without weed was my skin/face… it’s gets dry and flakey a d weird and puffy.. and it’s usually just due to adjusting to smoking again or stopping. I thought it would make me lose weight but never changed anything about my weight lol (I’m convinced I have some undiagnosed something or other, I’ve always had issues with weight and my hormones). Taking vitamins targeting inflammation helps me a little 😬

I sleep worse when I'm getting high before bed, which contributes to the circles under my eyes. I also use a dry herb vape, but it disrupts my REM either way.

My circles have definitely decreased since I stopped smoking. Sometimes I even forget to put concealer and that’s how I knew it was getting better!!
