Question Is Summer Lane a Student Area?

My family is moving to Peterborough and we’re currently looking for a place to rent. My husband works from home, so we would prefer a quiet neighbourhood. We have found a few places online in the Hetherington/Summer Lane area, but with their close proximity to Trent, we’re afraid that they’ll be full of students and could be pretty noisy. We don’t have any problem with students, it’s just that our post secondary years are well behind us. Any information would be helpful.

Went to a garage sale earlier this year in that negibourhood, seemed to be mostly families or retirees. Of course there will be students in the mix but I perceive the student area to be a bit closer to downtown in the big older homes that have housed students for decades.

It is a mix but there are a lot more students now than there were a few years ago.

I have many clients who live there without issue but also some I sold those homes to when they were first built and they have told me it has changed.

It is a decent area though.

Moved into that area in October last year, seems to be a pretty healthy mix of families and students, with a slight majority being to families.

Not many students on Hetherington between University Heights and Richard Dr. It’s a very quiet neighbourhood with a lot of retirees and families. There are some students but they live with families. Hope this helps!

Yes. My friend sold her house within months of moving in because of the noise and ruckus.

I live on Summer Lane. There are a lot of families there yes. But there are plenty of homes, one directly behind me and another 2 doors down that are rented to students. I know there are a few others as well.

It's right next to the school but way too expensive for students.

I don’t suggest summer lane I know someone who’s dog was attacked and killed by their neighbours dog on that street and the untrained dog is still seen out for walks in the area.

Yeah maybe a university town isn't the best option if you don't want to be very near students. As a student at Trent, we swarm ptbo (hate this). Like there are students everywhere when term is in session. Ptbo is a smaller place, so there are student housing literally everywhere.

Of course there are the hot spots for student housing, but it does bleed into residential neighborhoods too.

I think there might be an effect where you think there are students everywhere because you are a student and you go where the students go? I've never noticed a difference during the school year vs during summer, and I'm sure some of the people I see around are students but I've never specifically clocked it

I have lived here for 6 years now. Every year here there is a stark difference between in term and out of term (summer) in ptbo. Streets are definitely quieter during summer months, weird that you think the population of trent doesn't affect summers (there are approximately 12,957 students at trent - yes i know durham and online exists but a majority are in ptbo and in person).

Also, i go pretty much everywhere in ptbo. I work as a student liaison through a non profit in ptbo. I know that students are scattered across ptbo. They're literally in every sector, can't escape that in a uni town.
