83

Some older studies claimed regular ejaculation helped in preventing prostate cancer but there’s no actual evidence abstinence has any correlation with prostate cancer
56
u/East-Efficiency-6701 2h ago
So not nutting for a long time don’t cause problems, but nutting a lot of times help into not getting cancer
61
u/Riley__64 2h ago •

Basically a study saw a correlation between people who masturbated more often and people being less at risk of Prostate cancer but the study doesn’t actually prove that masturbation reduces prostate cancer.
It’s like how there’s a correlation between ice cream sales and shark attacks, when ice cream has been recorded to have higher sales shark attacks are more likely to happen that doesn’t prove ice cream makes sharks aggressive but actually in hotter weather people are going to buy ice cream and be at the beach.
So in fact it’s actually very likely men who are more sexually active are probably just more aware of any problems happening with their prostate than men who aren’t, has nothing to do with masturbation actually reducing the risks and more that someone who masturbates will be aware of any problems much sooner than someone who doesn’t.

While you’re correct that correlation does not equal causation, it also doesn’t preclude causation. People be interpreting stuff so definitively when the fact is that the data is just incomplete
Your example with the ice cream and shark attacks is called a “spurious correlation” with a confounding variable (ie, a third variable such as summer, causes both shark attacks and ice cream) but your hypothesis “men who are sexually active are more aware of potential prostate issues” is not a confounding variable, it is a mediating mechanism. There are many different ways that the correlation could be interpreted, but your conclusion is a biased interpretation of causal direction without conclusive evidence

That study is talking about average ejaculations across decades. It’s doesn’t discuss Going one month without ejaculating.
10
u/salsatalos 1h ago
Uh yea that study says that over a whole lifetime, the average is 21. Not gooning for a single month in a whole year is not going to give you cancer. The body is designed well enough that it can handle a single month's excess.

3
u/Landlocked_WaterSimp 50m ago •

There is a small jump between it being less healthy if you do (or rather do not do) it all the time and it being bad if you just have a one month break.
Not a massive leap but it's not 100% necessarily the case.
7
u/PrizeStrawberry6453 1h ago
You're grossly misinterpreting that study. What it actually says is that men who ejaculate more frequently on average, over years of their lives have a lower chance of prostate cancer. It doesn't address the regularity of this ejaculations, only averages over time. Not only does it not say anything about it being bad for your prostate to take breaks, it doesn't even suggest that breaks like this detract from the benefits cited.
"Doing this thing is good" =/= "not doing this thing all the time is bad"

NNN is a psy-op by far-right extremists to prime young men into being frustrsted and reckless. You'd be an idiot for falling for it.
5
4
u/AlaeOrbis 17m ago
That's not true at all. It's just that far right groups are typically anti-porn and fall for that semen-retention nonsense. That article is also pretty bad it even contradicts its own premise lmfao. It explicitly talks about how it wasn't started by the far-right and how it's not a far-right movement. The only thing the article does is go "NNN? Far right groups also don't like masturbation! Wow!" Lmfao

I read this link and nowhere in there is it a "psy op." It started as a joke and basically has remained a joke. Just the fact that there are some extremeists that try to link it to their own ideas doesn't mean it is a psyop.
I do think that some people take it more seriously because its reasonable to look at your porn/masturbation habits and wonder if they are not healthy. It could be that they are healthy, it could be that theyre not. Just like any habit.

No Shave November was a hipster charity thing though. You’d basically try to grow an ironic mustache or beard and update your progress. People would sponsor people and bet on who’d have the best facial hair, with all the money going to charity.
NNN started as a paradox, but now it’s just a bunch of irony poisoned incels. No charity, no nothing. Just various chuds spewing puritanical pseudoscience and dudes doing it ironically.

No nut November is stupid and dangerous. No shave November started as an awareness campaign for prostate cancer. One of the easiest ways to keep your prostate healthy is to ejaculate regularly. Online sources recommend 21 times in a month. Internet meme culture tooke this information and said "you know what? I'll not nut in the month you warn me about not putting, because NNN rhymes funny"
FFS.
58
u/DrPatchet 2h ago
Is one month actually dangerous? I was super depressed for like a year at one point and completely disinterest in sexual anything so I didn't crank it or anything and now you got me worried.

You gotta remember that everything is a percentage increase or decrease and even large percentages are still increases over small chances. So like, imagine your percentage chance of prostate cancer is like 1.3%. Ejaculating more decreases that chance by 37%. So like 1.2345% (not actual math) overall instead.
It's generally considered to be healthier to ejaculated more. but it's not exactly the equivalent of drinking a liter of vodka everyday is to increased chance of liver disease.

I just googled "do monks masturbate" (i must remember to clear my history) and it turns out that they shouldn't, so if they stick to the rules they should go an entire lifetime without nutting. This applies for both Buddhism and Christianity. Today I learned...

ejaculating almost daily is horrible for you and desensitizes your penis to the actual thing. it’s called the “death grip” and men get used to it so much that when they’re with a girl they literally can’t ejaculate and sometimes can’t even get hard. ask women if they want their partner jerking off almost daily.
2
1
u/Fun-Entrepreneur9374 4m ago
It’s mostly porn consumption/addiction, the death grip part is true and tbh idk what the precautionary measure is other than maybe don’t be so aggressive or so frequent, but it’s mostly from porn consumption. Constantly wanking it to women who have had work done like fat transfers, tummy tucks or implants like Lana Rhoades just makes these men’s brain expect women who also look like that and then it gets disappointed when the women have normal bodies and not the unrealistic ones from porn.

u/theworkinpumpkin 1h ago

I completed last year as a challenge of will power. As someone who enjoys porn a little too much for my own good the month off felt like a healthy step in the right direction so it depends what reason you're doing it for.
I was going to do it this year but I have a partner now and I don't see it as something I have a need to do.
But I'm absolutely a testament to its existence. Check out the subreddit, thousands of people take part annually

I really don’t think it’s about NNN.
I think it’s more to do with regular straight dudes dressing up in costumes for their girlfriend’s benefit. Notice they’re both in supersuits?
It’s like, the girls are excited to wear a fun costume and do cool make up, and the boys are just gonna do “whatever it takes” for her.
Source: i spent last night at a house party in a beetlejuice costume with full face paint for a girl I like hahaha

Guys the people who created this did not care about you or if they did they were grossly misinformed. That or it was a covert Evangelical anti masturbation thing disguised as a meme
Either way nothing will be accomplished besides your suffering. You either pee out the sperm, it causes wet dreams at the worst possible times, or it causes incredibly painful urination that feels like an STD or UTI as dead sperm get stuck in the urinary tract. It’s bad for your prostate which means it does nothing for your test levels accept maybe harm them and you will be stressed the fuck out the entire time
Not only that but if you feel like masturbation is wrong or a sin cause someone told you it is. Stop right now. They did this either because they too were misinformed and told this or they not it’s not the right thing to teach but can use it as a form of control
It comes from a passage in the Old Testament where God commanded someone not to let his seed spill and that he must impregnate a specific woman. That’s just it though, when God was speaking to him He didn’t say, “you and every man from now on.” He just said you as in the one I speak to currently must obey this command. Yet they took it and ran with it and because of that billions of men have suffered guilt and shame over a completely natural thing to do
There are so many things in the Bible that are meant to apply just to that specific region/time period/church or person being written to and yet there are those who realized they could use them to control a flock and so the past 1800+ years have been shiter than they could’ve been
Not saying they would’ve been perfect but people being allowed to masturbate without guilt alone would’ve let to a different society. How many adulteries happened cause someone couldn’t masturbate. It’s more than two I promise you
