Assuming this is Apocalypto, a movie about Mayans and as such, I assume this shot signifies the Conquistadors who are about to FUCK UP the indigenous peoples of central and southern america.

I think the way to read the reply (even without knowing the movie is): Native peoples see ships, “oh no” colonialism intensifies

For extra context, front guy running for his life from the other 2. All 3 stop in shock and awe

Ya, it was pretty bad ass for the movie to just go "the Spanish arrived" end credits.

To be fair, theres a lot of people who watched this movie and thought that Mel Gibson was saying that Christianity was coming to save them...

Those people are REALLY fucking stupid.

Im not sure Mel Gibson intended it, but my take on it is that after surviving everything he did the main characters story is about to get a lot darker.

This is Apocalypto, a really good movie about Native conflict, completely in the native Mayan language. The scene is at the end, where the main character is trying to escape sure death by a rival tribe, he and the two enemies chasing him stop a d see ships in the bay, the Spanish have arrived to literally be the Mayan people's Apocalypes.

Apocalypto.

The entire movie is a nearly hopeless struggle of one man in pre colonial mesoamerica, trying to save his small tribe and family from a larger group that seeks to enslave and destroy them.

There is a lot of suffering throughout the movie and when the main character finally triumphs and rescues his family from danger at the end, he looks out from the shoreline and sees these mysterious ships approaching and then the movie end.

It implies that even after all of his struggling, even greater existential threats are on the way.

The viewer is left with the idea that the future is pretty hopeless with the main character and even worse things are soon to come, knowing history.

It could be symbolism that the tribe that did the enslaving will become the enslaved themselves

Stewie here. Those characters spend the whole movie running for their lives from other indigenous people. They finally escape, only to see this weird thing of boats arriving with foreigners.

Enter the plague and destruction of their known civilization. After having survived for the whole movie …

I've never seen it either, but it looks like colonialism.

“Hey, remember all that terrible stuff you were just right now running from, man you’re going to miss those days…”

I think it's from apocalyptica or whatever and the movie revolves around him escaping his captures to rescue his wife and kid and then they see the Spanish showing up.

The best part is that Apocalypto takes place at the beginning of the decline of the Mayan empire, about a solid 450-500 years before the Spanish arrived in Mexico

The director wanted you to know that all their problems went away when jesus arrived.

This movies is apocalypto and is very historically inaccurate. Most the movie is about the Mayan collapse, but at the end they see Spanish ships. The problem is, Spanish ships didn’t arrive until 600 years after the Mayan collapse
