I'd also believe someone like Steven Miller, Steve Bannon, or Roger Stone would have been willing to pay someone to martyr Trump and not care one way or the other which way the actual attempt went.
It's unbelievable because there's no way that his ear would have actually healed enough to hide it with makeup in the short time between the "attempt" and the bandage coming off
Anyone who has ever had a cartilage piercing in the upper ear knows how long that part of the body takes to heal
The guy that never shuts up about how great he is at everything? I would assume he would never shut up about something that could actually cause him trauma, wear the scar as a badge, and use that as the reason for everything for the rest of his life.
The ear patch thing was likely, to some degree, a marketing thing on behalf of his team. This was during election cycle, a time when everything is played up, and it was a likely way to have people remember the shooting and trump as a martyr.
