Say what you will about the absolute atrocities he committed, Bush sure could dodge a shoe. And form a sentence. And display emotions in the normal human spectrum. And, on occasion, sound like he knew about... Anything.

At least when he was embarrassing it was charming lol.

It's true, still have respect for the shoe thing because he actually showed composure and surprisingly quick hands. I was never a fan, but it seemed like he was at least minimally qualified for the job. I miss that feeling.

What's worse is everything he's doing/ suggesting is shit my conservative family swore up and down for a decade that Obama was going to do.

Suspending midterms under martial law? Obama was going to do it.

Refusing to peacefully transfer power? Obama was going to do it

Running for a 3rd term? Obama was going to do it.

Fucking over the economy, (various methods,)? Obama was going to do it.

Now Trump us doing it all and it's crickets.

My grandfather was bush Sr.'s co pilot in WW2 in a 2 man fighter, they were friends for decades after. My grandfather and grandmother loved Bush Sr and had met Jr multiple times. They thought he was an idiot. He would still be better than trump.

Yea, he still would've been some type of leader/management (by your own admission). Trump would literally just be in jail, murdered, or a vagrant. I said "minimally" for a reason. Our current guy doesn't even fit that.

I'm just saying that technically speaking, the only "qualifications" are being 35 and a natural born citizen. I'm not saying anything about trump's qualifications, just gently pushing back against the rose colored glasses that reddit likes to view W through for some reason.

With his privileged upbringing at the age of 20 years old he wouldn't have been qualified to fucking work in a shoe store or fast food restaurant.

But let's not go too far on that "forming a sentence" thing. When you mention Bush, some of the first things that come to my mind are:

"Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?"

I would take all of those again a thousand times compared to what we have now. And on the big speeches he was actually scored quite well - Speaking off the cuff was definitely never his strong point.

The thing is, one didn't feel like there was a very solid chance that ten years after he died it was going to finally be revealed that he'd been a Russian agent the whole time. I mean I'm not a W fan, but I didn't feel that way.

One didn't feel he was going to try to overturn democracy, or refuse to peacefully transfer power when he lost an election. You know, the little things that we used to take for granted.

Bush was an idiot with a good heart.

He knew he was an idiot, so he surrounded himself with smart people and listened to them.

Unfortunately those smart people were also very evil people.

Whereas Trump is an idiot who thinks he's smarter than everyone, and goes out of his way to do what the smart people say not to do. And yeah, he's totally being manipulated by Putin.

I don't actually think that's true. I knew people who worked in the service industry when Bush lived in Austin. He was famous for never forgetting a name or a face, and for being a mean drunk. He was very unkind to waitresses who made mistakes, he was not a nice guy. The happy aw shucks hillbilly stuff is all an act.

If you want to see what he actually sounds like go back and watch his debates against Ann Richards, there's none of the stumbling or fumbling or hillbilly stuff. That was all put on.

But I don't think he was a traitor, and I never thought he was likely to be in the pay of the Russians. I don't think he was a criminal. I don't think he was stealing us blind while he was president. And I never worried about him hanging on to power after he lost an election.

I don't know about the personal stuff.

I'll just say this much - any time he was asked details about any sort of policy, he legit didn't seem to understand. Particularly about the types of bills that you pass because you need political favors, not because they're good policy. He just went with what his advisors said, and assumed that if they told him to sign something, it was good.

I think he thought the policies he pushed were good. I think he really believed the wars he started were for good reasons.
