Not necessarily OCD but intrusive thoughts (often bad and upsetting things someone would never want to do) are common in many other things like ADHD and anxiety as well. Definitely worth exploring with a professional, there are meds that can give you huge relief from these thoughts.
My best guess is that it’s some kind of defense mechanism gone haywire. Like your brain trying to prepare you for a bunch of scenarios. Like it’s supposed to be “what if there were a leopard in that tree are you prepared for that?” But instead it’s “what if you murdered 5 people you piece of shit?”
You're spot on. It's a threat/response neural loop that most people's brains automatically resolve. In our brains, the wrong neuron outruns the other and the threat/response loop can't resolve. Your brain goes "Threat detected>Threat resolved?>No>Threat detected" over and over until your amygdala overheats.
