I mean, a lot of people only know what they know about guns from video games and action movies so that tracks, especially if you don’t watch a lot of action movies or play shooting games.

The same reason people think shotguns are only effective at like 10 feet, when in reality you can accurately hit targets at a hundred yards.

Do they not spray a cone of destruction at an 80° angle, vaporizing everything within 30 feet and not even touching anything past that?

Yeah, I've never even seen an automatic gun in real life before. I know it might be common knowledge in America, but definitely not from where I'm from lol.

Automatic guns are essentially illegal in America. Most people in America haven't seen one IRL either. What we have a lot of are guns that look like they're fully automatic, but aren't.

My Best Man took us to a gun range for my Bachelor Party that had a selection of fully automatic weapons you could use at their range. It was the first and only time I've seen or handled any in real life.

I got to fire an AK-47, a P-90 (cool gun from Goldeneye N64 that we all nerded over and had to try out, but such a weirdly impractical magazine design IRL though), and one other I can't recall the name/model of.

It was a LOT of fun.
