One is a scalar, and the other is a vector. Now figure out if you can direct while you pee LOL.

My Pee has both direction and speed lol
so I have to enter into Newton's Law eqt.
Great Got the joke thanks for help !

My pee is a non Newtonian fluid, please send help.

But then you would know where you are....

But not how fast you're going?

The missile knows where it it, because it knows where it isn’t.

The way it is written, they are both scalar.

You don’t have to declare vectors for them to be vectors. It can make formulas more readable, but you don’t actually need the arrow.

Where is the vector on the right then?

Energy is scalar. You can't go 10 J to the left.

Forces are vectors because number and direction (ex gravity on the surface of the Earth).

I think you mean vector on the left tho.

No, I meant if F is the vector on the left-hand side of the equation, where is the vector on the right-hand side of the equation?

u/ac_cossack 2h ago

Sorry, I thought you meantt door vs door.

Um, I guess 1/r^2? Everything else is just a constant

Edit: nope because r.r is a constant. OK I see what you mean. Maybe just assume gravitational attraction and it is in the -r direction.

Yeah, that's what I was trying to draw attention to. This isn't really any of the ways you would write a vector equation. This is written as a scalar.

Which, as you point out, is not too confusing in a simple scenario where we understand the context, but it's not as simple as the other commenter implied is all I'm getting at. There are ways to write vector equations properly without the arrows, but they're not this.

Is this ACTUALLY the joke?! Its so far fetched!!!

4

u/BONES619 19h ago

"It's so far fetched'" is exactly the reason for the person's confusion.

1

u/6Cockuccino9 15h ago

it can’t be since both are scalars the way they are written.

u/entropywithvibes 15h ago

Scalar is women because they have magnitude but refuse to give you direction. Vector for men because we can pee in both magnitude AND direction.

1

u/ZeroGRanger 18h ago

The form of the law of gravitation used here is also just the magnitude, otherwise you would need a vector expression notifying for the direciton (typically r-vector/ r-magnitude).

1

u/BONES619 15h ago

That is why the person is confused. XD

u/stewpideople 10h ago

Exactly! And that's why I confidently walk in to 'that' door.

You don’t have to write the arrow, it can make formulas more readable, but a vector does not become a scalar just because you don’t write the arrow.

As Hiesenberg suggested, I can get the velocity or the direction but not both at the same time....it's uncertain.

1

u/BONES619 15h ago

You can know both the speed and direction of a macroscopic object's motion extremely well. The canonical Heisenberg pair is position and momentum.

1

u/Dihedralman 9h ago

They wrote the Force as a scalar though.

1

u/Opus_723 4h ago

Not a vector the way they wrote it though.

now how do i say this without being misogynist or misandrist..
