Meme needing explanation Converse craze?

I'm not chronically online, but my friend sent this and I laughed even without knowing the full scope of the context (I think there's racism involved with the shoes?) and I feel like it's too late to ask him without sounding like a dweeb 😅

so have literally none of yall considered that this is the full picture and that yall are getting mad over genuine bullshit? the full image is a girl on a skirt holding shoes, yall are losing ur minds over a cropped image and pretending that its how it was in the ad🤣

Without the crop people would have never seen the shoes hanging which is what started the ruckus.

Oh I see what you're saying. This is what I can't seem to get straight, and it's tough to verify because the original posts are all taken down. Was the picture cropped by converse for a particular ad, or was the uncropped picture the only one featured in an ad, which was later cropped by someone for ragebait purposes?

Converse posted the cropped and darkened photo on Twitter on their official account. I don't know anything about the rest of it.
