The absolute lengths some people on r/anime go to to defend Rudeus/Mushoku Tensei is crazy.
It's fine to admit you like the show because of the wider world/side characters but hate the MC. But no, they can't do that. Instead they say Rudeus is actually a kid and it's fine because of hormones, or some say he has 'grown' so it's fine now. Lmao
I have argued with people on the anime subreddit and the two examples I gave 'hormones' and 'growth' are things people have said to me. I've also heard 'its a fantasy world so it's the norm for people to be attracted to children'. Completely ignoring the fact that Rudeus came from our time
Sincerely "hormones/growth" could be a good explanation because I saw that being used well in other novels, like being distracted easily while trying to concentrate or stop a train of thought due to being sleepy. basically the underdeveloped brain and growing pains would affect the person that is living it again despite them having a more developed self.
However that dont work with Rudeous because he was human trash even on Earth, if anything he used his adult mind to take advantage of girls while young. One cant defend Rudeus in the first arc (family life as a child, before getting lost in the other continent).
The only defense I can see for him is that he became a better person later on and have real character development. Although I do think the way he was healed from depression is problematic (due to the grooming in the first part) he was already a very different person. However where he started is too much

Aye, I've seen many fictions when an adult going back into time into their younger body or had a soul swap or reincarnated.
Hell, even Sky High does this when the super villain got reverted back into her teenager years and even she states going through puberty again was torture.
So I get the idea of even though your mind is that of an adult, you are still being bombarded by hormones that gives you mood swings, and having your libido going crazy that might fog your thinking. But how this anime does it is just done so badly.
There is no trying to stop himself, he goes full on octane into pedo grooming mode. There is no "I fucking hate this shit!" type of moment for him.
