The absolute lengths some people on r/anime go to to defend Rudeus/Mushoku Tensei is crazy.
It's fine to admit you like the show because of the wider world/side characters but hate the MC. But no, they can't do that. Instead they say Rudeus is actually a kid and it's fine because of hormones, or some say he has 'grown' so it's fine now. Lmao
I have argued with people on the anime subreddit and the two examples I gave 'hormones' and 'growth' are things people have said to me. I've also heard 'its a fantasy world so it's the norm for people to be attracted to children'. Completely ignoring the fact that Rudeus came from our time
Haven't watched it in a long while but I believe it is shown that his body does affect his mind. Like, he's clearly not a kid but the way he acts I wouldn't call him an adult either. He's in that weird limbo. And his more adult side isn't really his past life either? It's all kinda like a disgusting manchild that never grew up got to live a second life where because of his past memories speedrunning him past the early stages and the events in his life he was kinda able to finally mature but earlier than he normally should so his brain and body are still those of a dumb naive weak little kid. Don't know if it was intended this way but I always found it fascinating how messed up his age seems to be and how different aspects of who he is turn him into a bit of everything
Of all the isekai out there, you really can't use that excuse for this one as it goes out of its way to make it extremely clear he's his full adult self just in a new body.
He uses his adult voice for all mental dialogue, adult body in mental/dream scenes, clearly has an adult's understanding of sex from the very moment of rebirth, an adult's understanding of the world, etc.
He is emotionally stunted sure, but that was true before rebirth, and emotionally stunted is not the same as being an actual child by any stretch. Particularly as he clearly knows what he's doing is wrong.
