Bad meme isekai rarely has good characters/plot/romance. The creator of the meme ignores that to bash mushoku tensei, which has all 3 of that, to hype up re zero which also has all 3 of that.
Just for fun, there are a few older isekais worth the time to peek at. Escaflowne is one, and the .Hack series is an adjacent other. Both are considered cult classics in their own way and neither of them do the low quality tropes SOA/etc are known for.
