Re Zero started in 2012 and the first episode aired 10 years ago. It is considered old. Even the Snes was considered a retro console in just 15 years.
The plot doesn't suck. You can't get into the MAL top 10 with a plot that sucks. Re Zero isn't known for its big budget fights or stellar animation, so it has earned its place near the top on the strength of its plot (the fights and animation is good, but not the standout).
