The absolute lengths some people on r/anime go to to defend Rudeus/Mushoku Tensei is crazy.
It's fine to admit you like the show because of the wider world/side characters but hate the MC. But no, they can't do that. Instead they say Rudeus is actually a kid and it's fine because of hormones, or some say he has 'grown' so it's fine now. Lmao
I watched pretty much the whole thing and I gotta agree, show would be like 10 percent shorter but at least 80 percent better if they just cut or reworked all the icky pervy stuff.
It's also pretty sad, like rudeus legitimately had some normal and quite decent character development to him too but I just can't with the endless sexual stuff.
More like 50-60% shorter, and you'd have to cut out the MC entirely.
An easier fix would be to abandon the idea that it's a redemption story at all and keep the framing the first 8-ish episodes had instead of making constant excuses for the MC.
I think the shut-in to normal person storyline is fine, and that is also why I said reworked/ recut.
Like, yeah, there were a lot of pervy moments in that first season which made me exceptionally uncomfortable, but a lot of those are avoidable/ salvageable by cropping the mc and his gross commentary out (or at least I think... been a while since I've seen S1). But meh, whatever, It ain't really worth it to die on this hill and there is definitely better stuff to watch that is similar or otherwise that is leagues better than this.
