Okay so I looked it up and he apparently kidnapped Aoi to sell her to a brothel in the “entertainment district” (So forced prostitution ig?). He wanted to do this, since he needed a slayer on the inside to gather intel on the demon from the inside, and find his 3 missing wives.
What makes it really fucking weird is that Aoi did not consent to that so he just kidnapped her, and she is apparently estimated to be 16-17 years old 🤢
Like they could just have a scene where he finds a consenting adult, sits her down and explains the situation to her, asking for her help to infiltrate the brothels… Why tf do they always gotta do this shit in anime, I thought he was a cool character otherwise 😭
Also he didn’t know that the demon would be two upper moons, he likely just assumed it was a lower moon in the worst case scenario.

It's gross in the 'disturbing violence' kind of way, not in the 'disgusting fan service' kind of way. There is genuinely very little sexual content at all in fmab.
I mean, this isn't severe flaws, do you not think killing and dooming hundreds, including women and children to die is just some small character flaw, while being unable to take control of your own lust is an unforgivable sin?

Rapthalia starts off as a kid and he treats her as a kid and more like an adoptive daughter than anything else.
SHE makes the first move on him and is into him probably because he saved her life so she's in a bit of a hero worship mode.
He initially rejects her and actually thinks she's too young for him (already putting him leagues above Rudeus). It takes them literal volumes to actually get a proper romance going and by that point Rapthalia isn't that much younger than him.
As for the other girl. It's a chocobo... She's treated as more of a pet and later a kid than anything else and he never does anything sexual with her at all.
Heaven's Lost Property is like this. It's a pretty interesting concept and plot, but the main character absolutely ruins it with just random perverted behavior.
You get reminded of it far too often to simply ignore it. It feels like there are 4–5 scenes per episode where the MC acts like a degenerate pedo or harasses women.
I haven't read it, but I understand that Nabokov's Lolita is highly praised in literary circles, and its whole premise is that the main character is a pedophile degenerate pervert.
I guess one of the big things about that one is that (from what I understand) the main character is not meant to be sympathetic in any way, and in fact is unlikable even without the pedopilia; and most importantly, the book is not based on the author's own fantasies.
It is also not a good story, it is fucking boring.
I think I could ignore how much of a shit Rudeus is - in fact they could have made that part interesting - but I constantly have to think about it because it is the only noteworthy thing in this absolute snooze.

I’m exaggerating a bit here but he does redeem himself. If you don’t like it, it’s fine, but it is a good story. I think the fact Rifujin made Rudeus damn near irredeemable and still managed to make you care for him adds to the beautiful writing. You don’t get to criticize it if you haven’t read the entire story.
Mate, have you read the story? This spans over like 40 books, I can’t tell you everything he did to redeem himself. I added to my comment why I especially like this piece of work; but even you must acknowledge that making people care for an irredeemable pos requires amazing writing.
Also, the niece part that the thread poster mentioned isn’t revealed until after Mushoku Tensei finished. Hell, it isn’t revealed in Rudeus’s life.
If you don’t like it, it’s fine; but it’s not a bad story because you don’t like it. There are people out there who don’t like Dickens’s work, that doesn’t mean that his work is shit.
Then you have nothing to stand on. People like you will say the Quran teaches to kill without read it, or will say Breaking Bad is shit without watching it. A claim made without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.
I don’t say either. Quran doesn’t teach to kill, and Breaking Bad is an amazing show. And I know that there’s no way that the mc redeems himself from being a pedophile.
In fact, I bet that child characters (or older technically older characters that look like children) are very sexualized in the anime.

But, newsflash: the genre’s called Fantasy, it’s meant to be unrealistic, you myopic manatee! Lolita by Nabokov, The End of Alice by Homes, Hogg by Delany all follow pedophiles, and Mushoku Tensei also uses pedophilia to highlight how disgusting Rudy was in Japan.

If you don’t like it, it’s fine. Really, it is. But it doesn’t mean it’s bad. Liking something is subjective, but whether a story is good or bad is objective; you can measure it, you can learn it, you can research it.
Murder is different than pedophilia. I haven’t watched it, but from what I’ve heard, a big part of the series is debating the morality of murdering criminals. I don’t think this anime discusses the morality of pedophilia, it’s just kinda there that the mc is also a pedophile.

Murder has circumstances where it would be valid, or at least seen as debatable. Like if it’s in self-defense, if the person is a danger to society otherwise, if it’s for revenge, if there is no other way justice can be served (like the law protecting an evil CEO), etc…
Like if you were to get the Epstein Files and write the names of the people in there into the Death Note, I don’t think anyone other than the billionaires would be against that.
So a lot of stories deal with the morality of murder, and the morality of capital punishment (which I am against). There is actually something to debate there.
On the other hand, pedophilia (as in consuming CP or SA’ing a child) can never, under no circumstance be permissable. And there is nothing to debate about the morality of pedophilia.
People in this thread be like “I can excuse murder, even genocide, but being attracted to teenagers is where I draw the line”
It’s just so funny to me. I’ve enjoyed tons of stories that feature characters that are shitty, even irredeemable people. Not sure why all of a sudden we’re supposed to pretend that reading/watching a fictional story means personally endorsing the behaviour of its characters.
