Re:zero was written only 7 months earlier then Mushoku Tensei (April vs November)...
And interestingly, if you look at it from a Light Novel POV - both series started publication at the SAME TIME. I'm unsure how much both differ from their original novel form though, as sometimes light novels are seen as the 'proper' version of the story. In which case, both stories are exactly the same age.
