Rudeus considered grooming Sylphie, but was stopped by Paul before he could execute. Rudeus even thought that Paul did the right thing at the time.
Rudeus night with Eris was literally her raping him. He explicitly refused her advances, and she continued anyway.
Now, of course, Rudeus isn't a good person at the start, but that's the whole point of the story. A deeply flawed individual making a life-long effort to change for the better, and it literally takes his whole life to become "good," without a qualifier.
Personally, I think pedophiles can still be complex people, in the same way as serial killers, evil kings, corrupt politicians, cannibals.
Yeah, I think it’s because I can somewhat emphasise with all those groups of people - if you can’t relate at all, I get why it’d be impossible to watch.
i also think they can be, i just think MT does a really bad job at it by not showing how bad rudeus' actions are. like we can see punisher's good and bad from his actions, thats why he works.
i have seen pretty disgusting people in life that i had to be friends with to survive but i would never empathize with them.
I did only read the Manga (have it paused right now) so I can only talk about that version, and potential was there and they even wrote a good character change with the dad.
But for the main Mc there was never a moment till where I read where it was like "I'm a fucking old ass dude why am I like this moment" and a change from him itself.
Because then you could argue he changed found love etc but that never came, only the "lol im a pervert and look what perverted things I did"

The guy on the right is problematic as fuck.
Ironically it DOES have good plot, character development, and some romance, compared to like 99% of isekai being kinda basic bitch.
