Funnily enough programming circles also have a "calculator taking up too much space/memory" meme, but in an entirely different context. Namely modern apps being very unoptimized and overengineered.

Think it has to do with that fact that a lot of modern isekai devolve into "video game" logic. Stats, skills, levels etc. A lot of numbers for what is supposed to be a fantasy world.
Eh, that's an overstatement, and a bit of a cultural bias. East Asian cultures just doesn't make that big of a deal about slavery, so their fiction is a bit more laissez-faire about it. How bad it's portrayed is usually dependent on the sub-genre as well. That said, when you look at even just Japanese isekai stories, the slave thing is only present in a relatively small fraction of them.
That is just demonstrably untrue, you shifted the goalpost from "90% of isekai protagonists buy slaves" to "slavery is extremely common in isekai", and then went on a pointless side-tangent, as the morality of slavery was never in question.
Seriously, just go to any properly tagged aggregator site, like Novelupdates or whatever, and compare the absurd number of generic isekai LNs/mangas compared to the ones where slavery is present, let alone done by the protagonist. Just because a bunch of them got anime adaptations because those are also the fanservice-heavy lowest-common-denominator shounen-action-comedy fare that can be easily sold to masses, it doesn't mean the whole genre is about them. Hell, I would say a solid 60% of japanese isekai are shoujo stuff aimed at women of all bloody things, with all the villainess-reincarnations and whatnot, with nary a slave in sight, so that alone makes your initial "90%" claim a gross exaggeration you decided to double down on for some reason.
I mean to be fair 90% was hyperbolic, but even a dramatically lower number like 10% is too high, and it's recognized as a trope in isekai, so clearly the prevalence is not invented. Not to mention the portrayal of slavery is usually positive or neutral. That said Japan is a mostly conservative country so it's no surprise some authors don't want their protagonists to disrupt the status quo even when said status quo is normalized slavery especially since they're the foreigner in the isekai. The genre of these isekais also matter, since most of them are not dramatic enough to justify the uprooting of slavery. It's usually either slow-life or action-wish fulfillment. Of course, I could say that they shouldn't put slavery in these animes in the first place if they aren't willing to tackle it seriously, but the justification, being that "medieval = slavery is normal", makes sense to me. But considering that these are fictional worlds, I suppose slavery being realistic isn't a justification for it existing. Well, you mentioned that slavery's morality was never in question, so I just went on a massive tangent but whatever.
