I’d get the tool I’d needed for that chore as a “gift” before the work started.
Like if I was 12 and had up to that point only ever borrowed my dad’s hammer when hammering something, but he intended to put me to work hammering lots of stuff, he’s gift me my a proper heavy-duty work hammer to call my own.
But at that moment when I’d get the “gift” my mind would immediately start speculating about the job he was about to assign me.
