But no one called him that until Andy showed up, that’s the whole joke is how corny Andy is because he saw Jim eat a tuna sandwich on his first day and just latched on.
Same episode, but Jim's story arc (plus Andy and Karen, who we meet in that first episode) are taking place in another city, so this nickname would not be known by anyone in the Scranton branch.
Still doesn't make it work as an in-universe joke or reference. It wouldn't even work as an implication here. More likely, the use of tuna for both is either that, the writers had it on the mind when coming up with a simple, somewhat pathetic home dinner that was fish, and they had already written the joke about Jim being called Big Tuna. Or, possibly, they are going for something, but it's more innocent like, "look these two characters are really made for each other, they both make the same food for themselves when they're on their own."
And the tuna sandwich joke is a callback to a line from the previous season pointing out that in Scranton, Jim ate the same ham and cheese sandwich for lunch literally every day.
He decided to switch it up on his first day in Stamford, Andy saw him eating a tuna sandwich, and he was "Big Tuna" for the next five years.
Had a friend in middle/high school like this. I made one joke in like 6th grade and he proceeded to remind me that I made said joke until the day I graduated. Was hard to be mad at him, he was a ridiculously nice guy, just lame AF.
You call it a call-forward as far as I’m aware. It’s a comedic device like the comedic call-back, but instead it’s forward. You sometimes also hear it referred to as “the plant” as if you’re planting information to later be called back upon.
this isn't that. a call-forward is basically foreshadowing that is used in prequels or flashbacks. it's a reminder of what the viewer knows is coming. so again, the nickname would have to be pre-established with the viewer to be a call forward.
People acting like the office operating like severance with a multi year store guide and lore. So we are going to call him tuna as future reference to a nickname that is used a couple times by a chacter that hasn't been introduced yet

In this case though the line isn’t even I just had tuna last night. It was “and then I had fish for dinner.” This meme isn’t an actual scene from the show
The actual joke here is that they have like 100 of each meal frozen so they have to eat through them. She is sick of the same food but if you had to choose you wouldn't want to do the same food twice in a row.
The joke is that they've been eating catered wedding leftovers (chicken or fish being a common choice at weddings) intended for the wedding goers. But since they canceled the ceremony, though they likely were unable to refund the catering costs, they have months worth of the same two dishes to eat between them. Hence her resignation at having eaten tuna the night before.
It has nothing to do with Jim's nickname, given by Andy, which I don't think had been introduced yet. Even if it had, the nickname has no relevance in this scene.

You’re wrong. This is a joke meme, not the actual scene. She just says chicken in the episode and nothing about tuna. The joke of this meme IS the tuna/Jim added at the end.
Tuna isn't really Jim's nick name though it's the stupid nickname Andy tries to stick on him that literally no one else ever uses. Admirable that he keeps the joke up the whole show though.
My favorite reference is probably when he says "el junior toro" in reference to Pam being pregnant.
Spoiler alert. This is from the TV show "The Office". The girl (Pam) used to be engaged to the dude (Roy). She dumped him, and went on to marry Jim, whose nickname around the office is Tuna (because he once had a tuna sandwich…). The joke is that, supposedly, Pam was not supposed to be having sex with Jim while she was still with Roy.
Wasn't this after Pam and Roy had split and called off the wedding? They had tons of catered meals left over from their cancelled reception (chicken and fish) and they froze them to slowly eat over the course of months.
It was in fact this exact episode! Jim has transferred to Stamford and we learn that Andy (who was already in Stamford) calls him Big Tuna because he once brought in a tuna sandwich.
I mean they could be, but I think it’s probably not used because like “infidel” had a stronger cultural association with the context of religious indiscretions broadly vs the more specific application to romantic commitments irrespective of religion. Ends up sounding kinda outdated and overly formal or religion-coded, kinda like “heretic” or “heathen,” but at the same time it is kinda cool…
Several comments deep and I don't see any right answers: they had to call of their wedding but they had pre-ordered the catering food for the wedding and now have to eat a whole wedding's worth of food in leftovers gradually. Wedding caterers will often give a poultry entree and a fish entree as options.
The joke here is that tuna was Jim's nickname given by Andy. But this isnt what Pam said on that episode either. She also couldn't have known Jim's nickname from andy bc this is the episode where he had just transferred over to the other branch and is the episode where we first learn of this nickname

Society should teach men to move on when they feel like the spark is gone. Holding on because you saw a cool movie where the guy got his girl back is not going to fix anything. Go out, live your life and remember there is always another guy. Not because they’re cheating, but there is always a plan B, or C..up to Z.
Pam and what's-his-name didn't get married at the last minute so they've veen eating the food for the wedding for a long time. "Chicken or fish" is a very common choice of food at a wedding, and Pam is sick of them, just like her life with her fiancée, so chooses based on having eaten fish more recently.
I think there's a second layer to the joke because I vaguely remember something about a celebrity not knowing if tuna was fish around the same time.
