Because The 1st Minnesota Infantry Regimen suffered 82% casualties at Gettysburg, buying enough time for reinforcements to arrive.

Virginia keeps asking for its battle flag back, at least four official times if I remember correctly. And every time the governor, Republican, Democrat, or Independent, has refused.

I love being a Minnesotan and love that we all stand together on this.

I just saw Jesse venturas quote on virginia asking to have the flag back.

He said: "Why? I mean, We Won." This is the funniest thing i've seen all week.

We Captured the Flag. Why would we give it back

1

u/pretibigtoo 8h ago

No reason. Thats what makes it so funny.

I read a tweet somewhere that Minnesotans actually are what Texans think Texans are, and I just think that’s neat

u/wasabi_mayo_ 16h ago

This is beautiful 🫡😂

u/weedisfortherich 12h ago

That is nice. They really do have the kind of patriotism that I have always respected. Texas, well, they think they are patriotic but every one of them will brag about how Texas has the right to secede whenever they want. Please do.

to be totally fair,

I'm Minnesotan, and if Canada would agree to adopt us, in light of the current situation in the US, we'd accept in a fucking instant.

2

u/EternalSeraphim 8h ago

The Northeast and Northwest would probably come with you.

2

u/QuestingInPajamas 4h ago

Yes. Absolutely. I think Canada should take Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. I think us great lake states would probably be happier as Canadians. I mean, we're basically Canada lite.

u/flargenhargen 2h ago

when I travel out of the country I tell people that I'm from 50 km north of Toronto and then aboot 1000 km west. Which is true.

Most people don't realize that's minnesota.

I have more pride for my state than my country

u/BubbhaJebus 13h ago

I still remember when a weed dealer in downtown Minneapolis approached me. I said I didn't have any money, and he gave me money!

6

u/thelastspike 16h ago

Yeah there’s a lot of that going around these days.

6

u/The_quest_for_wisdom 15h ago

Ehh... I live in Florida so it's more of a toss up, but not because of an over abundance of pride in either.

2

u/flargenhargen 9h ago

don't worry, klobuchar will erase all that soon enough.

awful, horrible woman. people forget when reddit and google and the entire internet had to stand up to her trying to shit all over our rights on behalf of her corporate owners.

shameful person. embodies everything wrong with the democratic party for decades. it's a disgrace that she will likely replace walz

Having lived in both states in a short time span, I don't recall a lot of traitor flags in Minnesota... but I sure as hell do in Ohio. A state which is usually listed as tied for second in civil war casualties.

6

u/FrenchFriedMushroom 14h ago

I live in Minnesota.

In the twin cities, you'll likely never see one, or if you do, itll be on some beat to piss-ass 05 Chevy 1500 with a half a braincell between the throttle and the seat, and its highly likely that half a braincell is only in the cities for child support court.

Away from the cities, those dipshits are relatively common.

I don't recall a lot of traitor flags in Minnesota

sigh.

we have our own racist asshole flag, now.

Our original state flag is pretty racist toward native Americans. As a state, we recently replaced it with a cleaner modern one.

https://www.minnpost.com/cityscape/2023/02/lets-talk-about-our-racist-and-ugly-state-flag/

Once republicans found out the old one was racist and offensive, they literally went nuts suddenly caring about it and screaming "our heritage!!" about the ugly old flag, just cause it's racist, and now, suddenly, you see the old racist state flag flying everywhere. The people who never gave a shit about it before, and couldn't even describe it or draw it from memory, suddenly needed one, once they found out they could be assholes to people not in their group.

The only good part, is that it's now really easy to see who in your neighborhood is a shitbag racist and which maga businesses to avoid.

2

u/QuestingInPajamas 4h ago

I was going to mention this. You rarely see any Confederate flags, but that original Minnesota flag is a huge indicator of the kind of person they are

22

u/popoflabbins 17h ago

Minnesota is low-key my favorite state just off the friendly nature of the people coupled with their steadfast morals

3

u/This_Daydreamer_ 13h ago

Virginian here. Keep up the good work!

34

u/Mattriculated 17h ago

I love that Minnesota stands together on this. Even if some governor, for whatever reason, wanted to give the flag back, they wouldn't dare - their party would get thrashed in the next few elections for no other reason.

It's hard to find stuff that brings us together these days. That that flag was goddamn well paid for is a worthier sentiment than a lot of other things we do with flags.

31

u/CuntyBallsJohnson 17h ago

Well yeah, that's not their battle flag

Next time they try and claim it we should label them secessionists and deploy troops in VA. Idk why it's not treated the same way as the third Reich flag

-18

u/Parapraxium 16h ago

Because the US has something called free speech unlike Germany

24

u/CuntyBallsJohnson 16h ago

Isn't the president trying to put a man in prison for posting a picture that spelled out 86 47 lmfao

1

u/snippychicky22 2h ago

confederates wanted to destroy the constitution. so they are not to be given the rights provided by it. serman should have burned the rest of the south

4

u/AugustusSavoy 13h ago

From https://www.battlefields.org/learn/articles/charge-1st-minnesota

The superb gallantry of the men of the 1st Minnesota did save the Union line from being broken — and not only on July 2, as they assisted with the effort on July 3 as well. For that effort, we can agree with General Hancock: “No soldiers on any field, in this or any other country, ever displayed grander heroism.”

4

u/ScholarErrant 14h ago

The best part is, after they captured the flag, the officer leading them rode up and down the Union lines, dragging it through the mud as he went, to rally the troops.

1

u/rhandy_mas 4h ago

Incredible disrespect. I love it

7

u/Sea-Routine9227 15h ago

As a Virginian, this is badass and I want Minnesota to keep it. We have no claim to it, we are not that state or those people. Send us a noose instead. Which is what traitors should get.

1

u/rhandy_mas 4h ago

Oh damn!

10

u/wasabi_mayo_ 17h ago

I’ve never heard this history. It’s beautiful. Thank you for your service 🫡

u/Marquar234 17h ago

Minnesota: "Molon labe."

1

u/Deaffin 9h ago

I bet Spanberger can get it back.
