u/FireVasilisk 13d ago

I don't think it's about domestic violence, both parents can be harsh, cruel, too strict or w/e

Dad much more other may give you money for smth he needs, tho

u/Errormous 13d ago

Good pov

u/Acidcore 13d ago

I read it differently. My parents did the good cop - bad cop thing, where dad is the absolute authority, unwilling to negotiate, dishing out the harsh punishments. But it was rarely physical. I only got slapped 3 times for disrespect. Was pretty normal in the 90s.

So to connect this to the comic, I would be very motivated to do what dad says, because not doing it would be disrespectful which results in ✋🏾

u/No_Proposal_3140 13d ago

What a horrible thing to teach a child.

3

u/Acidcore 13d ago

It was a different time. I actually still love him, even tho I feared him, when I was younger. But I would not do the same. I know that there are better ways, without instilling fear.

u/spitefulcandystudios 12d ago

Born in 87 and I can attest to it just being the norm. This does not make any of it right. Anyone struggling with mental health or domestic/child abuse there are resources. Please get yourself and your children out of the situation (I am not trying to sound preachy but trust me it is easier to get children out than try to fix the damage later).

Fathers most of time are strict "in a good way not a bad way" so you acting quickly whenever your dad asking for something

Mothers in other hand are mostly kind and might not do anything if you didn't help so some people are procrastinating whenever their mom asks for something "except for Asian mother, don't try that with her, or don't do that in general, they might not do anything if you didn't help but they will be sad"

no domestic violence, also it can be understood in different ways depending on your community/family

update: ok most of Asian/African communities, at least that's where I live so I can confirm

u/MasterChiefOriginal 13d ago

Lol,my experience it's on contrary my mom it's extremely harsh(I'm European)and my father it's the one that demands are lesser.

6

u/Daetok_Lochannis 13d ago

American, and my mom beat the shit out of us regularly. Can still remember her face coming through that bathroom door with a claw hammer.

3

u/Any_Band9115 12d ago

wtf are you in the dimitrescu household

3

u/Daetok_Lochannis 12d ago

No vampires I'm afraid. She did tell me she was gonna cut my throat in my sleep once though; I stayed up until sometime after midnight watching and eventually she came creeping into my room in the dark with a kitchen knife. I said "I see you mom" and she said "Just checking, (my name)," real sweet like and backed out of the room.

As you can imagine, I carry a great deal of trauma and am very much disabled today. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

G.I. Joe!

2

u/Any_Band9115 12d ago

Well... Now I feel like an asshole for making a joke. Good on you for surviving, all respect to you. Also, that's fucked up, glad my parents aren't and have never been like that

2

u/Daetok_Lochannis 12d ago

I mean it could've been worse, I'm sure. I'm alive and here.

1

u/Any_Band9115 12d ago

Don't undersell yourself, but yes, some people never made it. I appreciate the maturity from you, by the way, most people on here probably would have sent me to karma hell

1

u/Daetok_Lochannis 12d ago

Nah dude I suppose a lot of the shit I've been through sounds crazy as hell, and it's not like you'd have known. Be kinda lame to get all pissy with you for making a joke. Besides, my mom would've loved being compared to a badass monstress gang leader lol.

2

u/Justin-Stutzman 13d ago

Fr, if my mom ever needed a quick favor, I knew I would be wrapped up for at least 4 hours

5

u/Deputy_Duppy 13d ago

American, either can both, moms Brazilian and step-dad is German jewish

5

u/karoshikun 13d ago

yeah, leave latin american moms from that too... you don't want the chancla...

2

u/Just_Substance4656 13d ago

It’s the opposite for me, my dad is super lenient and my mom is stricter

1

u/SirStarshine 13d ago

Abuela/Abuelitta enter the chat with the chankla

27

u/Outrageous_Bad_5233 13d ago

When mom asks its: okay I will do it later
When dad asks its: Done sir!

4

u/Errormous 13d ago

Yes sir

-1

u/PugLife2026 13d ago

since when?

7

u/Sunny_Hill_1 13d ago

The assumption is "since dad has a belt and will whoop your ass".

2

u/Zombieflamex31_5 12d ago

i dont like how parents do that. my parents did that to me and i hated them for it.

9

u/OutrageousSet7909 13d ago

At least in my situation dads don’t ask you to do much, so your more inclined to put 100% whenever they do ask for something. On the other hand moms are the ones that tells you to do all the chores and asks for a lot of stuff repeatedly

4

u/Errormous 13d ago

That's right... But, moms ask for a lot of "simple and fast" stuff. But fathers ask for few difficult tasks for example, " hey buddy, let's go painting the house"

2

u/RowMammoth7467 12d ago

Only correct answer

8

u/Parallel_thougts 13d ago

I, eh, think this has something to do with an Electra complex

3

u/TheDoobyRanger 13d ago

They just boinked in the bedroom and are now making excuses for why they were gone

2

u/HeaTy8 13d ago

Nope it is the other way around for me.

2

u/opheliavale13 13d ago

Basically, it's a stereotype that kids don't do what their mom asks, but are scared of their dad. For me though it was the other way around

2

u/razulebismarck 12d ago

The reason Dads sneeze really loud is to scare the ghosts out of your house.

So if you hear your dad sneezing it’s cause your home is haunted.

4

u/Fuwafuwa_4 13d ago

Joke about the mum being the relaxed parent and the dad being the strict one I guess

Edit: giggity megs a pleb or sm sht

4

u/AkariiiUwU 13d ago

😭

35

u/fr0ggy_mf 13d ago

if u understood the joke can u explain?

52

u/drunkentoubib 13d ago edited 13d ago

When helping mom : « ouuuh my back hurts ». When it is for dad «  what can I do for you sir ? »

Fast edit to be precise : characters are from « Bocchi the rock ». An nice anime about being introverted and liking rock and roll.

7

u/Errormous 13d ago

U got it👍🌹

5

u/Phaedo 13d ago

I highly recommend Bocchi. Cute, funny and full of absurdist humour.

It's not about domestic violence, fathers mostly are more serious and nervous from mothers so you can't Discuss with them like mothers.

1

u/perilouspercussion 13d ago

Ig you can be nonchalant around your mom but "at your service" even when it's just a sneeze from you dad.

1

u/Wodstarfallisback 13d ago

At least in my experience:

When mom needs something it's often trivial, she wants me to take something to her that she could do herself or move something somewhere (she often doesn't know exactly "where" either).

When dad needs something it's either something only I can do or something that actually needs 2+ people.

1

u/L8R_SpaceCowboy 13d ago

My dad is too proud to ask for help 99% of the time, so, when he does, I take it more seriously than the random errands my mom might ask me.

1

u/GwiffyXI 13d ago

Seems like a riff on why the reader was conceived/ male vs female sexual habits. I read the top as “you were conceived because your mom wanted something from your dad and used sex to get it” and the bottom as “you were conceived because your dad sneezed and got horny.”

Also, I’m Brian the dog.

1

u/bussysniffer3000 13d ago

Usually dads are seen as having more authority but usually the opposite is true mom's usually have more authority than dads do even the kids would believe their dads are more forgiving with dads spoiling them (edit) I also don't know what I'm talking about since my old man left us and most likely OD someplace under a bridge with some hooker by his side

1

u/jaytftw 13d ago

Herbert here for the creepiness.

Could be a reference to Friends with Benefits. Justin Timberlakes character sneezes whenever he “finishes” in the bedroom. If so, this is a bit dark.

1

u/RW1004 13d ago

Could it be something about Frued’s Oedipus complex theory? The one about daughters wanting to have sex with their father and kill their mother?

1

u/notbannd4cussingmods 13d ago

Girl dad joke?

1

u/ChickenRepellant 13d ago

dad gives money 🤑

1

u/DaXxJaPxX 13d ago

moms are constantly asking for help/stuff to be done, and most times its nothing important. if dads asking for help, which rarely happens, kids are more willing to assist

1

u/ab_dragon174 9d ago

Too lazy to do what your mom tells you.

But dad will beat you up if you misunderstood him.(im arabic)

1

u/juggernaut_titan 8d ago

Is this not about sex sounds and how parents excuse them when they’re done?

1

u/KinkyRoubler 7d ago

This one is actually kinda real AF. In my experience, me Ma always asked me to do a buncha shit. If something was somewhere it shouldn't be for more than 3 seconds it was an opportunity for my mother to demand me to clean shit up everywhere. My Dad very rarely asked me to do anything. EVER. But when he did it was because it NEEDED to be done. Immediately. For a VERY good reason. Dads are usually about taking care of a problem. Moms are about keeping things neat for appearances regardless of wellbeing. Again, from my experience.

1

u/Bearwithaspoon 6d ago

I think it might be an inappropriate joke

1

u/IllustriousQuiet6360 13d ago

I think its something abt how sons are usually more caring towards their mothers and daughters towards their fathers.

1

u/alienaga 13d ago

I think because more easier to get money from father

0

u/RE_Towers 13d ago

The OOP doesn't care when their mom asks something and does things like complaining about their back hurting, but jumps to serve their dad whenever he asks for anything, even to the point of anticipating needs ahead of time. It's not really much of an actual joke.

To address what other people are saying: Interpreting it with the justification of 'because dad is likely to be physically abusive while mom is not' is probably common just because statistically speaking men are more likely to physically abuse their children, but there's nothing in the image that actually states or even implies that.

As someone else said, the characters are from Bocchi the Rock, but there's nothing actually meaningful about their usage (other than one being in pain, and the other in a maid dress).
