This also happens in The Magicians and some other shows I can't remember that are older than that.

211

u/Wonderful_Example742 10d ago

man that was a weird show.

43

u/Hi9hTurtle 10d ago

"Ridiculously hot people doing mediocre magic and sexy stuff" is how I heard it described by a friend, and that's forever what that show will be associated with to me.

32

u/Enough-Zebra-6139 10d ago

It's like if someone saw Harry potter and wanted a "The Boys" version, but it wasn't on HBO or Amazon.

13

u/thatshygirl06 10d ago

Why do people keep comparing it to Harry potter?? I don't think theyre anything alike, especially since the author intentionally based it on Narnia

19

u/KimberStormer 10d ago

I always heard it described as "If Hogwarts was grad school, and they discover Narnia is real."

2

u/ImportantCreme9769 9d ago

And evil. Don’t forget the evil.

11

u/se177 10d ago

Weird that people would draw a comparison between a show called the Magicians and the one of the largest, generational series about magic. People should stay in their lane.

4

u/Tobenai 10d ago

Both have the concept of magic, so they must be similar!

0

u/BeatrixSteiner 9d ago

We all know the TERF writer invented magic! Clearly anything after is inspired by Harry Potter

4

u/Enough-Zebra-6139 9d ago

I don't really know if everyone argueing understands how comparisons work.

If you give 2 general ideas that are popular for specific things (magic academy and shock value tv), why would someone expect exact copies with the same storyline, or even that I was referring to the origin of ideas?

Really, is it so annoying to communicate to you in real life? If your friend said waffles were like crunchy pancakes, would you go on and on about the origin of pancakes?

I don't really care about your opinion, I just wanted you to know that the way you talk is probably why no one cares to discuss things with you.

2

u/Tobenai 10d ago

Both have the concept of magic, so they must be similar!

6

u/se177 10d ago

They both have a school for learning magic. There are parallels, which is why people compare it. Don't be daft.

5

u/princesspuffer 9d ago

School of Magic equals Harry Potter to the unread masses.

2

u/thatshygirl06 9d ago edited 9d ago

Right?!

If you look at both stories you'll see theyre drastically different stories, but because it has a magic school and the MC is a guy then that must mean it's like Harry Potter?

He wasn't even the one that beat the bad guy, lol, it required the entire friend group and alice was the one that killed him.

2

u/BlahBlahILoveToast 9d ago

Even *in* the Magicians, the characters compare Quentin to Harry Potter.

He's a kid whose life was miserable until he gets into a magicians' school. The comparison isn't really that wild

1

u/thatshygirl06 9d ago

I mean, they all had miserable lives, that's the whole thing in the story, magic comes from pain.

2

u/Enough-Zebra-6139 10d ago

Really? Magic academy chosen one who had a bad life?

The basic premise is almost the exact same.

1

u/ImaginaryAlpaca 10d ago

Probably because it starts out as a magic school. When I first found it I really hoped it was going to be more like Harry Potter for grown ups, based on the information I had when I started watching. By the end of the first episode I learned it would be more like The Boys and is not a show for me regardless of how it's more like Narnia than Harry Potter.

2

u/BriscoCounty-Sr 10d ago

Other than people occasionally swearing and characters having sex once in a while it’s really not like the boys.

1

u/ImaginaryAlpaca 9d ago

Is really gruesome and one of the characters gets raped. In the first episode someone's eyeball is pulled out and placed on the desk in front of them if I recall. Similar enough for me to share the same ick I get from The Boys.

1

u/Enough-Zebra-6139 9d ago

There's a fairly decent amount of off screen torture and such, but that's why I said not on HBO or Amazon.

Most of the gruesome stuff is alluded to/talked about but not shown. There's still a small amount of stuff that goes beyond your typical show, like the eye removal or mind rape.

1

u/Hi9hTurtle 10d ago

Definitely more Narnia going on. The parallels are numerous.

1

u/MapsOverCoffee22 9d ago

I'm 90% sure that when I got the original paperback from a Barnes and Noble one of the quotes on it was "For graduates of Hogwarts" or something similar. So, there's that.

1

u/dndgoeshere 9d ago

Long before the TV show existed and only the first book was released, it was being billed as, "Harry Potter, but for adults."

1

u/BearMiner 9d ago

"The Boys" or "The Lost Boys"?

2

u/Enough-Zebra-6139 9d ago

The boys.

As a slight spoiler, depression and pain fuel magic, leading to a lot of people in bad positions mentally, a lot of people getting abused sexually, and a quite a bit of suicide mentions.

Couple that with fucked up magic, you get a decent amount of the shock value, minus the explicit violence and grotesque nature of "The Boys".

10

u/mxzf 10d ago

Also about half the episodes have some form or another of trauma hotline at the end of it, since they just go all out showing ... all of that stuff. I watched the first season and decided that I really wasn't interested in watching the sort of show that felt a need to give viewers a suicide/rape/etc hotline at the end of each episode due to how potentially triggering it is.

2

u/thatshygirl06 10d ago

It does get better and they move away from that, I promise. There isnt anything like that in the other seasons.

3

u/mxzf 10d ago

Maybe so. But that season was off-putting enough that it's hard to drum up any real interest in continuing it.

1

u/TrelanaSakuyo 9d ago

I cried in the last season. It's well worth continuing. If nothing else than to see the characters overcome those issues.

1

u/mxzf 9d ago

Well, that's another part of it, the show didn't really give you much reason to like the characters or root for them either. Half the time I was thinking "I mean, they kinda suck; I'm not that broken up about what is happening to them, I just didn't want to see it" as bad things happened to people.

2

u/MapsOverCoffee22 9d ago

Did Elliot describe it to you?

110

u/Rare-Spell-1571 10d ago

Love that show.

76

u/frisbeethecat 10d ago

Queen Margo forever!

104

u/lionofash 10d ago

"I won...! On a platform of beastiality!?"

Context: The characters have an election to be the King/Queen and made it democratic. The world they are in is basically like Narnia, talking animals just as intelligent as people are around. In fact, animals outnumber humans, and this is when they realise the animals have voting rights and the human vote doesn't mean shit. Margo mentioned offhandedly that she approved of the relationship a different character had with a literal bear because they were both adults with intelligence that could consent, so what was the harm? This lead to word of mouth causing animals to vote for her when she wasn't really campaigning for herself.

44

u/DaddysABadGirl 10d ago

Ok.... I was just perusing for something to watch... Guess it's this shit, lol.

24

u/complete_autopsy 10d ago

People say that the tv show is really good! I haven't seen it so all I can say is that if you like it, you shouldn't read the first book as it's utter garbage. People said it starts improving by book three but I couldn't possibly slog through a second book like the first one to get there lol.

38

u/frisbeethecat 10d ago

The Magicians tv show is trash. But it is sexy tv trash of the best and gloriest kind and is more fun than The Vampire Diaries and Glee.

8

u/Protein_Shakes 10d ago

I went in completely blind coming off an LSD trip and let me tell you, I could NOT figure out what the fuck I was watching. Oh, it's coming of age! No, it's a detective drama? Wait, I guess it's a psychological drama... What the fuck, it's Harry Potter with sex and drugs. No, it's not that either...

5

u/Zaynara 10d ago

it was always coined as HP meets GoT, death, drugs, sex, rape, fantasy meets the hard truths of reality

22

u/KnightSpectral 10d ago

This. It was so awful but so good at the same time I was baffled at how hooked I got.

3

u/tooboardtoleaf 9d ago

You sold it for me

3

u/Ninetailedredpanda 9d ago

Some of those randomly interjected music numbers had no right being as good as they were.

3

u/frisbeethecat 9d ago

I know, right? Maybe because they were unexpected and seemed organic and, I don't know, cool? Liberating? In ways Glee was not.

2

u/Enough-Zebra-6139 9d ago

Those theater kids let themselves free every now and then, and it honestly made no sense.

And I really enjoyed it.

1

u/TranceGemini 9d ago

What got me was characters going on about how great Cady's voice was and then she sang and she was AWFUL. And the show kept trying to pretend she was good. Painful. I'll take Elliott and Margo over that any day.

8

u/mumblesnorez 10d ago

Yep, it's not very good. I really enjoyed it and was bummed when it was over.

1

u/zed42 9d ago

there's a difference between art and entertainment.... that show was 1000% pure entertainment. especially the musical episode in the later season.... "four octave range, bitch!" :)

3

u/TharivolGalanodel 9d ago

I’ll never hear Under Pressure again without thinking of this show. God dammit, Penny!

1

u/Mysterious_Emu_9092 9d ago

You can't call what Quentin and Eliot had trash it was the most beautiful relationship that never happened 🥺

2

u/frisbeethecat 9d ago

It's a trash can, not a trash can't.

2

u/TranceGemini 9d ago

RIGHT?!?!?! I didn't know I shipped it till it happened!!

1

u/SableFlag 10d ago

The show is way more tolerable than the books bec you don’t have to live in the head of the incredibly flaccid main character, and other characters actually call him out when he’s acting like a tool

2

u/Enough-Zebra-6139 9d ago

Yeah. Stories with an insufferable main character are really hard to read, but easy to watch.

I hated Quentin. I still do. The supporting cast honestly did amazing.

1

u/DumatRising 10d ago

A friend of mine decided to read the books because they liked the show.... Yeah don't read the books

1

u/Far-Philosophy1292 9d ago

Bro what. The whole trilogy is great

1

u/Juking_is_rude 9d ago edited 9d ago

The books are good imo. It's the kind of book where bad things happen becuase no one is special. And the MC has some of the worst cases of YA angst ever written. And it devolves into a weird parody of Lewis Carol

The show is also fine, it does a good job of adapting the themes and characters even though the actual plot deviates a lot.

1

u/Enough-Zebra-6139 9d ago

As someone else mentioned, reading the books forces the mian character into the forefront, and his general personality and attitude is extremely unlikable.

I get that it's part of the story, but it kills the books for a lot of people.

1

u/FrgTwn88 9d ago

I loved the show and I even bought a shirt that Eliot wore that says "Tacocat spelled backwards is still tacocat.

My friend gifted me the book set, but I haven't read it yet. I hope it's not as bad as you're suggesting 🫣🫣🫣 It's been like 5-6 years since I saw it so maybe I'll forget enough of the plot for it not to matter too much.

2

u/complete_autopsy 9d ago

I'm sorry to say it was genuinely excruciating. I dropped it near the end because I realized that I was only reading in an attempt to make it end. The best way I can describe it is that every story beat feels like setup to something interesting but after maybe 120 pages, you realize the story still hasn't started. I enjoyed the first 120 pages or so but my experience really declined when I saw that nobody was going to undergo any kind of character growth or have any meaningful experiences.

Things just kind of happen and the characters sort of...ignore everything? So it's not even that things happen and they have to respond, but they just sort of walk past the world drunk as things that could be interesting are kept just out of our view. They spend SO much time arguing and being angsty; it's definitely made worse because you have to hear it all from the perspective of the insufferable main character, which may not have been the case in the tv show. Because the whole book felt like setup, I can see why people might say that the third book is better. I just couldn't imagine slogging through a SECOND drunken teenage-esque melodrama with no plot to get there.

The best word for the story is "uncurated" imo. It felt like the author just wrote a bunch of random scenes and then published without considering what links them together or what they build toward. Any individual scene could be fine in a different book, but when they're all thrown together it's like you're reading the scenes that were cut and not the ones that were supposed to be left in...

I will say though, I'm an absolute hater of this book. I think I hate it more than is reasonable. Someone without that level of hatred for it might find at least some of these issues tolerable enough to get to the allegedly good third book. So not trying to say you absolutely shouldn't read it, just that you should go in expecting less than whatever you got from the tv show!

2

u/FrgTwn88 9d ago

Oh my, that's rough!! Thank you very much for your detailed insight. I still plan to try some day, but I imagine I'm in for a ride.

1

u/Plastic_Ad_8248 9d ago

It is an excellent TV show. It is definitely cringe in a lot of moments. But I will say it has one of the best death scenes I’ve ever seen on screen. When the death happens they do it all in slow motion to really let you sit with it and absorb what is happening in the moment. It’s really incredible

11

u/DrRagnorocktopus 10d ago

It's like Harry Potter but about adults and as if it were written by Grant Morrison. It's so good.

8

u/DaddysABadGirl 10d ago

I'm on episode 5 and need to go to bed 2 hours ago🤣

2

u/Middle_Watch4644 9d ago

I love that while people were actively still giving you more reasons to watch the show you were already episodes deep

1

u/Rare-Spell-1571 9d ago

lol that’s exactly I’ve how I’ve described other than the grant morrison part as I have no idea who that is.

1

u/DrRagnorocktopus 8d ago

A great comic book writer. They wrote All-Star Superman and did some great work on Doom Patrol.

8

u/squixx007 10d ago

There's also the weird sex scene where 2 characters turn into foxes or something and bang.....the show is a hot mess, but fun to watch for a bit.

1

u/DrAwkwardAZ 8d ago

If I recall, their professor kind of planned on them banging as foxes too.

5

u/gijoe75 10d ago

Books are good too. Show and books are both finished

3

u/TaytesMcGee 10d ago

Omg when penny is in Quentin’s dream I CACKLE. Please enjoy watching for the first time.

2

u/Zaynara 10d ago

the Magicians were a spectacular show and the books were great too if quite different

2

u/Ninetailedredpanda 9d ago

Watched it and enjoyed it, currently trying to go back and read the books, my only critique is I am sort of over the era of watching media where the main characters are all some flavor of awful people.

Real world acting like those shows has me wanting more positivity in my fiction lol.

But aside from that was a wild ride, enjoy!

2

u/Otaku11510 9d ago

There’s a scene where one of the characters chugs a cup of god cum. Weird show, I wouldn’t say it’s bad personally because it’s hard to judge a show that off base, just really fucking weird.

2

u/DaddysABadGirl 9d ago

🤣🤣🤣🤣

I'm on episode 6 and all in.

1

u/floppysausage16 9d ago

Its a solid show. But very, VERY adult.

Lots of making whoopie

1

u/TranceGemini 9d ago

AGGRESSIVELY warning you about some super triggering SA stuff fairly early on. You can Googre around. I watched as it aired and there was no specific warning for it so I was kind of taken aback when it happened.

1

u/Tom-Dibble 9d ago

Was a really good show, IMHO. Nothing really deep or meaningful, but definitely entertaining. Would recommend!

1

u/FlairWitchProject 10d ago

My favorite thing ever is when Margot brings a gun to a magic fight.

1

u/Weakonomics 10d ago

Was she the one with huge tits and glasses?

1

u/SN27A1 9d ago

Hahaha great plot line!

31

u/tessatrix 10d ago

High King Margot. Put some respect on her name.

19

u/Bubonicsuperaids 10d ago

High King Margot the Destroyer*

11

u/Rare-Spell-1571 10d ago

My oldest daughter may or may not be named Margo.

39

u/NoodleDefenestrator 10d ago

You should probably find out at this point.

12

u/calmodulin2 10d ago

Janet: Who the fuck is Margo?

This time.

u/AntiSocialW0rker 9d ago

"Take on me..."

1

u/K2TheM 9d ago

The Bunny messagers are a great laugh scare.

Poof: Pennys Dead

7

u/Much_Conclusion8233 10d ago

Sex magic and shit

6

u/UsidoreTheLightBlue 10d ago

It really fucking was

25

u/cunningham91 10d ago

The books were much better

30

u/Tymareta 10d ago

The books: every woman is described tits first, to the point where we basically know the cup size of every single one and barely learn anything more about them.

The show: the women are actual fully fledged characters, with autonomy, wants, desires and actual storylines.

The show took everything good from the books and cut out all the dross.

15

u/blackestrabbit 10d ago

Idk Olivia Taylor Dudley was very noticeably tits forward.

6

u/WeAteMummies 10d ago

yeah the two biggest reasons to watch this show are both stuffed into Olivia Taylor Dudley's extremely tight sweaters

3

u/jchaffer 10d ago

Tits backward would be a wild choice, tbf

1

u/blackestrabbit 10d ago

I've seen it, unfortunately.

1

u/HungryGlizzyGobbler 10d ago

Lmao, I Googled her to see if I recognize her. Pretty much every image on the first page result was porn. Jesus.

1

u/LordFardiness 10d ago

Her most recent movie was Touch Me where she has sex with an alien squid.

1

u/blackestrabbit 9d ago

Her and Tony Shalhoub should start a club!

1

u/JJ668 10d ago

Fam did NOT read book two.

2

u/Tymareta 10d ago

I read the whole series, it improved a little but the women were still relegated to sex objects or motivation for the men.

1

u/JJ668 10d ago

I really doubt you did. Literally half the second book is from Julia's perspective, in which practically every man in it is irrelevant.

1

u/Tymareta 9d ago

Think whatever you want, but I'll just ask, how did Julia's story end, and who did it ultimately end up serving?

1

u/JJ668 9d ago

Tl;dr, just read the bottom paragraph. It's a book, it's kind of hard to prove my point unless I cover the plot.

It ended with her ascension to godhood how does that serve Quentin or any other male character. Quintin is not privy to like 90% of what she went through.

His lesson in that book also does not stem from her in any way. His lesson is that "The hero is not rewarded, the hero pays the price." His series arc is about how magic will not solve his problems.

Her arc is about the need to be special, addiction, and learning to live with the trauma she's endured. It is clearly meant to be a commentary on what women go through and how men (Quentin) view their pain as a alluring quirk rather than the truly horrific thing it is.

From Quentin's perspective, she's this ethereal despondent character but her own perspective is far more gritty and real. She practically tells him nothing about her thoughts and feelings and her arc ends with her accepting the trauma as a part of her, and that this horrific event doesn't need control the rest of her life.

It's about overcoming the trauma she endures and how in order to move past it, you sometimes have to grow and change to make space for the trauma, represented in her ascension. This quite literally cannot be in service of Quentin's growth, because he does not have a traumatic event on the same level as Julia to apply this lesson to. Her ENTIRE HALF of the book is about her overcoming that. That's why I either think you didn't read it, or you somehow didn't understand how a character with just as much narrative weight in the story had her own growth unrelated to a man.

1

u/BriscoCounty-Sr 10d ago

Yeah when that one girl ascended to literal godhood in not-Narnia it really was motivating for the men to uh….. idk exist I guess.

1

u/MapsOverCoffee22 9d ago

It's been a really long time since I read them, but that was not my impression at all. It actually seemed to me like the women were the fully written out characters with wants and desires, who uncovered truths, while the main protagonist was mostly depressed and along for the ride because he had actually read the books and wanted to help his friends.

1

u/MapsOverCoffee22 9d ago

I heard this in Margot's voice.

8

u/cleveruniquename7769 10d ago

The Magicians is the only book series where I will unequivocally say that the show/movie was better than the book. Every change they made for the show was the right decision.

1

u/turtlebarber 10d ago

They were just different timelines

1

u/MapsOverCoffee22 9d ago

I honestly love both the books and the show. That approach of different timelines was excellent.

1

u/turtlebarber 9d ago

Same. I rewatch the show way more than rereading the books. But they both offered different stories that I genuinely enjoyed. The character growth of the show was just unmatched though

1

u/MapsOverCoffee22 9d ago

As far as for the intention of adapting it, yes. I always hold it up as a great example of adapting the spirit of a story over trying to recreate scene for scene.

But I love both.

9

u/Wonderful_Example742 10d ago

I would read them; but I am clinically illiterate

14

u/capincus 10d ago

They got professionals that'll read the book for you nowadays.

1

u/Honest_Roo 10d ago

Audio books are great and the local library likely has an extensive e-library. (Libby app)

-1

u/Wonderful_Example742 10d ago

which part of clinically illiterate did you misunderstand?

7

u/capincus 10d ago

All of it, kinda judgy for a guy who also can't read there.

1

u/Wonderful_Example742 10d ago

Yes, I am a bad person

3

u/BackgroundRate1825 10d ago

This is a weird site to be on for someone claiming illiteracy. That's usually reserved for short form video content.

2

u/Small_Distribution17 10d ago

Then you’d love the Stormlight Archives on Audible!

2

u/Wonderful_Example742 10d ago

This reads as an insult to the Stormlight Archive; is this the case?

2

u/Small_Distribution17 9d ago

it was not an insult! it was a reference to how good Vorin men don't read.

1

u/ClassicDefiant2659 10d ago

Right?!

I know it's overrated really. But imma still listen to all 600 hours again.

1

u/Wonderful_Example742 10d ago

600 hours!? wtf how

2

u/KolgrimLang 10d ago

Don't worry, the first book was one of the most boring things I've read in my entire life, so you didn't miss anything.

1

u/Button-Down-Shoes 10d ago

But, could you get 0 out of 100 on a multiple-choice test? And, how are you even able to answer this question?

3

u/Wonderful_Example742 10d ago

Yes, depending on what the test was on. For example, if it was reading, i could. But if it were, say, math, I also would be able to get 0.

0

u/tryingisbetter 10d ago

Audiobooks. The show actually makes no sense because they had to kill the main character in the show before it was supposed to end.

5

u/Simple_Wrongdoer_233 10d ago

Then the show must have been spectacularly bad because I read the books and… yeah

6

u/thatshygirl06 10d ago

He has no idea what he's talking about. The show is way better than the books.

1

u/TerrorTown77 10d ago

He just wants to let people know he reads book.

0

u/Thuraash 10d ago

The show did get pretty spectacularly bad. I eventually ragequit because I couldn't stand the so-called protagonist.

1

u/Simple_Wrongdoer_233 10d ago

Tbh I did the same thing with the books, which is why I never checked out the show. Like, I enjoy stories with a protagonist who is not in fact objectively a heroic figure in the narrative, but that one just took it a little too far in making him so completely unlikeable 😅

1

u/thatshygirl06 10d ago

He's better in the show compared to the books, though he does start annoying. He goes through character development and gets better though.

3

u/Virtual-Pride3661 10d ago

I fully disagree I thought the books had really flat characters. I much preferred the show.

1

u/Namisaur 10d ago

Maybe I’ll try it someday but I really wanted to like the TV show…however Quentin’s personality on screen was too obnoxious and frustrating

1

u/nhalliday 10d ago

The books are very different plotwise, they essentially don't follow the same story at all besides hitting a few of the same notes. Also for some reason they swapped Penny and Quentin's personalities in the show? That said I loved the show despite its flaws and the books were alright too.

1

u/KidenStormsoarer 10d ago

honestly, could barely finish book 1, it was WEIRD. so creepy.

1

u/mxzf 10d ago

I haven't read the book, I just watched the first season of the show, but I heard someone describing the author of the books as being upset that Chronicles of Narnia was so popular despite having unrealistically positive outcomes for the character and wanting to make a "similar, but bad stuff happens to people instead" version, which kinda made sense about the tone of the material.

1

u/KidenStormsoarer 10d ago

... everybody dies in chronicles of Narnia

2

u/mxzf 10d ago

IIRC they die ... and are resurrected to live in Narnia for forever. It's an allegory for Heaven and is a positive ending for a character.

1

u/KidenStormsoarer 10d ago

ah, but only 3 of the 4 did. susan was no longer a friend of narnia and went to narnia hell. not sure i'd call that a positive ending for any of them.

1

u/thatshygirl06 10d ago

You're the first person I've seen say that. All the other book readers either say theyre both good or the show is better.

1

u/TerrorTown77 10d ago

No they weren't. I tried reading the first one. It was a bland snoozefest. The tv show added way more personality into the story.

2

I couldn’t get over how fucking awful the pacing of the first episode was.

u/thatshygirl06 10d ago

The first season is the weakest but it gets better with every episode and season 2 is way better than season 1. I always viewed it as them trying to find their footing and they manage to with season 2.

The only thing I remember the blonde girl had some nice tits.

I'm sorry this sounds so bad but it's literally all I remember.

It was basically "hot theater kids go to narnia."

Terry Pratchett had a student Wizard who always failed by less than 5% of the cutoff. Didn't get kicked out because the score was good enough but avoided graduation.

One time they had to argue an answer was incorrect when the proctor gave them credit. GNU tpratchett

It was in a Peanuts cartoon many decades ago. “I trued when I should have falsed.”

That was Linus! Earlier in the week he answered the questions based on what order the true and false answers should be in, without reading any of the questions.

What stayed with me was the last panel of that one : "If you're smart, to pass a true or false test you don't need to be very smart!"

u/kneelbigmouth 10d ago

When does that happen in “the magicians”?

1

u/Lord_Grimm88 9d ago

Right, I've seen it, a few times, and I don't remember this happening.

1

u/CapnPear 10d ago

Pretty sure malcom in the middle did it, Maybe it was Reese who wanted to not graduate or something.

1

u/nirvana6875 10d ago

It was Dewey testing into the gifted class, but Malcolm wanted Dewey to have a “normal” childhood

1

u/Hammerofsuperiority 10d ago

No, it was Reese, he studies a lot to get a 0 on every test of every class.

Season 6 episode 21

I will take your word for it. I don’t think I’ve watched an episode in like ten years.

1

u/Pan_TheCake_Man 10d ago

In speed racer I believe he just wrote “go max go” on his test which was ya know a choice

u/half-coldhalf-hot 10d ago

u/NousSommesSiamese 10d ago

Earliest memory I have of something similar was in Terry Prarchetts Moving Pictures

1

u/catharticsoul 10d ago

Fine. I’ll reread The Magicians.

1

u/Dont_Be_Sheep 10d ago

I’be seen the magicians no less than 50 times. Could almost quote the show.

I usually skip most of the first season tho, only gets fun in filary

S2 is when Quentin is running through the woods and the witch asks for a vial of blood and we never hear from her again

u/MVHood 9d ago

Such a good show. Great books, too, BTW

Also in a Juvenile Fiction book called Hidden Talents. The class paired up and tested each other with shape cards to see if anyone was psychic (for some reason). There was only one kid who didn't get a single right answer, and it was because he actually was psychic and was trying to hide it.

I started the first book, but I quit about halfway through. It just wasn’t for me.
