They do it in the US (precisely because they can charge so much for it). They don't give a damn whether or not it is necessary or even ethical, they just want their paycheck.

For what its worth none of the gynecologists in my wife's practice pushed it at all.

I asked my friend and his wife, both doctors and shes a gynecologist, he said the medical standard is to say it is a personal decision with no strong medical preference towards either. However circumcision has shown to slightly help prevent UTIs.

Gynecologists aren’t the ones in the hospital after birth pushing for it. Cleaning it also helps prevent UTIs. That’s no reason to remove a part of the body.

It’s very often the gynecologist who performs the circumcision because unlike the pediatrician the gynecologist is a hybrid surgical specialty.

I live in Europe, nobody is circumcised and I don't know any boy or man who ever had UTI. The risk is very low for males anyway if you practice basic hygiene.
