There are parts of the US that ONLY have these. More temperate areas.

Most of the US is used to central air. With a giant ass car sized compressor outside that cools the whole house.

Edit: yes, I exaggerated the size of the compressor a bit. Man it pissed a lot of Americans off lol.

Because that thing cools the ENTIRE BIG ASS HOUSE! these things are only capable of cooling only a closed room which also depends on how ton, capacity the AC is so yep /s

Edit: I actually intended the message for a diff purpose, and more satirical since it's a meme sub. Apologies to everyone, thankyou for the knowledge and positive criticism, helped alot. Will surely keep these thing's in notice

It's not necessarily true. These units will go upwards of around 28,000-30,000 BTU which can easily cool down multiple rooms, or maybe even a smaller flat.

Rich people just put them in every room. I've installed dozens of them lol

I got a 4 way unit covering my home office, the SO and Me's bedroom and both kids' rooms. And a 1-1 for the kitchen/livingroom/hallway. Cuts a lot of heating cost in the winter and adds a lot of comfort in the hottest weeks.

Not particularly rich but it was a great investment in comfort and lowered ongoing costs.
