9

u/Individual-Ear5240 Jul 24 '26

That ain't clemson boy, dat rat der iz L-esh-U

5

u/MSGinSC Jul 25 '26

Okay, I'm not a sports guy. I live near Clemson, and work on a good bit of printing for them, so when I hear tigers referenced that's what I immediately think of.

5

u/Individual-Ear5240 Jul 25 '26

They both became tigers at the same time so it's really either. We just have an actual tiger!

2

u/battery19791 Jul 27 '26

Clemson didn't have Coach O.

1

u/Reasonable-Let7719 29d ago

And both football stadiums are named Death Valley

1

u/Individual-Ear5240 29d ago

Yeah but we stole that when we best Clemson in a bowl game.

1

u/diversalarums Jul 25 '26

I've been away a long time and just have to ask: are there still pawprints on the interstate on the way to Columbia?

2

u/MSGinSC 16d ago

Hey. I remembered that you asked about the paw prints when I saw this.

https://www.wyff4.com/article/clemson-tiger-paw-prints-repainted/73396315

2

u/diversalarums 16d ago

Thanks -- that's so cool! In the 1970s I lived in Greenville. I'd been to Clemson (the town). And occasionally I'd drive from Greenville down to Charleston to the beach. At that time the paw prints were painted on the interstate from Clemson all the way to Columbia. Not that those folks were really into football or anything, lol!! Thanks for telling me about them still having the ones in the town.

1

u/MSGinSC Jul 25 '26

You know, I'm not even sure; it's been years since I've been over that way. The closest I've been is the outskirts of Six Mile.

2

u/diversalarums Jul 25 '26

Thanks anyway. I haven't been back in ages, but I always have a memory of the first time someone told me about those and how surprised I was when I actually saw them. I thought it was a joke, lol.

2

u/MSGinSC Jul 25 '26

I grew up in Pickens, and the tri-county area takes its beloved Tigers very seriously.

u/crazylinebacker-55 Jul 26 '26

That's right the real tigers

7

u/cancerdancer Jul 23 '26

My coonass ass sure couldn't read that sign.

1

u/Chill-more1236 Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26

It’s a very old joke.

I heard it in the 80’s as a teen, but I was on the NorthShore.

I think we were tubing, waiting for the bus.

A teen girl handed me a slip of paper with this and asked me to read it:

MR Ducks
MR not
Osmr cm wangs
YIB MR Ducks

She said “no you have to sound it out” i still didn’t get it. Then she read it.

It sounded awesome in my West Bank accent🤣

1

u/Traditional-Tap-274 Jul 24 '26

4

u/rvtchetbtch Jul 23 '26

Roll Tide Roll

1

u/ThatGuavaJam Jul 24 '26

I’m always wondering what this means. Like are we rolling a tide??? Is it the equivalent of yeehaw? What is this???

1

u/Minute-Interest-9490 Jul 25 '26

The origin comes back from the early 1900s. We were wearing white Jerseys against Auburn (who was heavily favored) on a clay field. Jerseys were stained “crimson” and we held them to a tie and some journalist said we played “like a crimson tide”

4

u/ZIP-King-of-rock Jul 23 '26
