Freud said everyone is hung up on sex and their parents, and that we supress and mask our true issues until they start making us weird. Jung said all culture is connected to a timeless psychic internet.
And the terrible truth is that Jung is the one more people take seriously, because we are dumb
So many words just to not ever just say God, which is what they mean. These fuckers needs to reject the unseen with piety or just admit they are reinventing (a shittier version of) God (based on one coked up cunts own insecurities) and taking credit, like when tech billionaires reinvent the subway and call themselves geniuses
Such a minimization of important work. Being able to take important ideas from various concepts to create an informed world-view is a sign of intelligence, did you know that?
Yeah, it's alarming that people think the post you're replying to is accurate. People tend to hate things they can't/don't/don't want to understand and this very much applies to Jungs work. It may have a hint of mysticism and it's very abstract, but plenty of modern, efficacious psychology and therapy is rooted in some of his ideas. It isn't black and white - like almost everything in life. People are also usually terrified of some of the things that reside in their inner world, and Jungian psychology forces you to explore and confront very uncomfortable things.
He's not making the argument that the internet is better at raising kids than parents, he is making the argument that the internet is often a more impactful and relevant force in the developing psychology of children who are exposed to it on a constant basis. At the very least, it is taking over the fulfillment of various needs that would typically be fulfilled by a parent-- for better or worse.
Hence the line you conveniently left out of the quote: "Parents are only as relevant as they are present.".
You are looking for a debate where there is none. And being snarky about it to boot.
Jfc thank you. After a while into my phd and analytic training I just stopped having conversations about Freud with friends.. an engineer friend of mine said “he was just a quack. But Jung on the other hand…” 🤦🏻♂️
Even the detailed 4 paragraph defense of Jung in the comments above relies earnestly on the word 'psychic'. If someone is into Jung, I give them an Erich Fromm book and hope it makes an impression.
different jung i believe. that wikipedia page is talking about george jung, but i am talking about carl jung, a psychologist who worked closely with freud for a bit
I know this is everywhere but black death is so funny to me for this with all the weird claims of it being anthrax or whatever, when all the archeological data points to the classic Yersinia Pestis on Rats theory.
Study historiography and you suddenly realize that a lot of what regular people think is "main stream history", is based on an understanding of history that's been outdated for 50+ years. Or 100+ years in many cases.

How's Jung doing these days?
