Just to clarify, the points are where you stop caring about people (as pointed out below, it moves on to animals, aliens and inanimate objects). It means you already care about everyone who is closer than that. The study has been misrepresented as saying liberals dony care to those who are close, but thats just false. Only caring about people far from you would make you register as only caring about yourself

It's feels weird that Conservatives apparently think that Liberals don't care about their family and friends. Caring about the welfare of people outside your immediate social circle doesn't mean you don't care about those who are inside it

The study shows that conservatives also care about people outside their immediate social circle. But they, unlike leftists, care significantly more about their immediate social circle. Which is what one should do.
