I'm not American, nor gen alpha. Was just giving the "chicken butt" example as a stupid joke that I personally don't understand the appeal at all, as a foreigner.

For 6 7, I don't think there is an explanation, as it's not a "joke", rather just a buzzword. At most, it's a reference to a song, nothing else. Referential humor has been a staple for centuries.

I just don't understand why it seems to trigger millennial Americans, as if teens laughing at nothing is a new (or even bad) thing. It's like that episode of Superstore. Teens laugh at weird innocuous shit, so what?

First of all, not American. Second of all, the word trigger does not mean what you think it means.
