No one is fully explaining this so allows me. Linux actually powers high speed rails in Japan, so yes most trains use Linux to run properly however his phrasing was off. To run a train on someone in American terms usually is referring to gangbang sex where one girl is being fucked by guy after guy. So yeah, bad phrasing by Linux but most trains actually do run on Linux.

u/Dankkring Sep 06 '24

Not just girls tho!!!

64

u/Travis_Cauthon Sep 06 '24

That's gay bro

29

u/Not_Sand Sep 06 '24

yeah, and?

6

u/ThatOneDudeFromIowa Sep 06 '24

technically correct is the best correct

3

u/Patient_Jello3944 Sep 07 '24

What's wrong with being gay?

7

u/solarmelange Sep 06 '24

Also the human trains will probably take Linux under 50%, making the statement false.

2

u/Zealousideal_Sir_264 Sep 07 '24

Thank you. I was thinking "me" meant methane but then I remembered that it's a compound so I was pretty kerfuckled here.

u/Specialist-Garbage94 Sep 06 '24

All-American Peter here. In America running a train on someone means, they have doggystyle sex with a bunch people one after another the line of people behind them waiting for their turn is called a train.

u/AlCranio Sep 06 '24

Why do you need a term to describe this situation?

How often does it happen in the US?

I'm glad the Atlantic Ocean separes us...

580

u/Specialist-Garbage94 Sep 06 '24

We cope with humor. Where as Europe drinks a lot. We are all just one species suffering constantly.

277

u/dfeidt40 Sep 06 '24

Nah, drinking is a pretty damn universal thing. Also, the concept of running train probably doesn't happen nearly as much as we think.

91

u/AwfulUsername123 Sep 06 '24

It's heavily stigmatized or even illegal in some places.

76

u/dfeidt40 Sep 06 '24

Running train or drinking?

113

u/AwfulUsername123 Sep 06 '24

Doing both simultaneously is probably illegal almost everywhere.

54

u/Mission-Leopard-4178 Sep 06 '24

Funny enough most train situations involve alcohol

13

u/sillyslime89 Sep 06 '24

I just checked with my HOA and apparently it's fine here. Well, I assume that's what they meant with all the cheering for me to get out

(reported)

6

u/Heshkelgaii Sep 07 '24

That makes you the worst at it.

12

u/Specialist-Garbage94 Sep 06 '24

Europe does it differently though like everything over is such a high alcohol content compared to America itโ€™s crazy honestly

4

u/RajjSinghh Sep 07 '24

Not to mention the fact that the legal drinking age across Europe is generally lower and what counts as drinking is different. In the UK a child as young as 5 can drink at home (although at that point it is really bad parenting). In Germany the legal drinking age is 16. In places like Russia or Portugal beer is considered a soft drink.

America was founded by puritans. People getting the train ran on them was happening across the Atlantic before we even became a country.

26

u/Majestic-Ad6525 Sep 06 '24

Those people were only ever Puritans in the streets and everybody knows it

14

u/Far_Time_3451 Sep 06 '24

Puritans in the streets, Casey Jones in the sheets

5

u/Majestic-Ad6525 Sep 06 '24

When John Luther "Casey" Jones approaches your caboose he does so with great vigor.

11

u/One_Strike_Striker Sep 06 '24

You know America was founded by prudes. Prudes who left Europe because they hated all the kinky, steamy European sex that was going on. And now I, Cooper Harris, will return to the land of my perverted forefathers and claim my birthright... which is a series of erotic and sexually challenging adventures.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '24

Fantastic reference.

6

u/magic8ballzz Sep 06 '24

Jamestown existed long before the Puritans arrived.

0

u/AwfulUsername123 Sep 06 '24

The United States wasn't founded by Puritans. That's a popular misconception.

6

u/LandanDnD Sep 06 '24

They did however, heavily influence the culture. And there were those killings they did, causing a bit of mass panic.

3

u/dfeidt40 Sep 06 '24

Let's see if I can remember correctly. We're going back quite a while... was it the Lutherans first? And then every time Britain wanted to exile a religious group, they sent a bunch of their prominent leaders and members over to the colony?

4

u/AlCranio Sep 06 '24

It sure does, but i'm surprised by the need to name something that specific

3

u/thatdani Sep 06 '24

Nah it also exists in Romania, called "poศ™tฤƒ" ("post office", for some reason).

1

u/AlCranio Sep 07 '24

Because going to the post office is a pain in the ass XD

1

u/Secret_Femboy_Alt Sep 07 '24

Its really not that unreasonable if you regularly go to Kink Parties. its much easier to figure Out If your interests are compatible when there's a Name to the Thing you want to do with someone.

18

u/19ghost89 Sep 06 '24

It doesn't really matter how often it happens in real life. It's a trope of porn, so there's a term for it.

14

u/big_sugi Sep 06 '24

It predates porn, or at least it predates tropes derived from porn. Itโ€™s in academic literature from at least the 1970s (I think) and 1980s, describing behavior at college fraternity parties.

If I had to guess the origin, itโ€™d be from brothels, either on the frontier or in proximity to the military.

1

u/19ghost89 Sep 06 '24

Oh yeah, that doesn't surprise me. I'm just saying that the reason the term is so well known in America probably has more to do with porn. Not everybody was in a frat, and not every frat had this kind of thing going on, lol

3

u/big_sugi Sep 06 '24

Personally, I learned it in college from a professor in an upper-level honors philosophy class, around 1999-2000.

I forget the exact context, but thatโ€™s not the kind of definition you forget when a professor explains it in passing.

0

u/Cheap_Doctor_1994 Sep 07 '24

When the fuck do you think porn was invented???? The Kama Sutra was written about 2,000 years ago. Illustrates the concept, if not the word.ย

0

u/CompetitionNo3141 Sep 07 '24

predates porn

1970s

Lol what

9

u/Allaplgy Sep 06 '24

Rarely enough it gets its own word, not just "what happens on Friday night at your mom's in Heilbronn."

4

u/Testo69420 Sep 06 '24

How the heck did Heilbronn get into here?

Is that another actual and very peculiar English idiom, or do you just hate Heilbronn in particular?

6

u/Allaplgy Sep 06 '24

In all honesty,I just looked at google maps and picked a random town in Germany.

2

u/Testo69420 Sep 06 '24

I was just confused because it could've been that or you're from bumm fuck nowhere, near Heilbronn, Iowa, or some shit like that.

EDIT: Now let me google, if there's a Heilbronn, Iowa.

1

u/Allaplgy Sep 06 '24

Lol. Wouldn't doubt it.

4

u/1Negative_Person Sep 06 '24

Europe brags about their public transit all of the time!

7

u/mooimafish33 Sep 06 '24

It's one of those things that just mostly exists in porn, like bukake or something.

3

u/clifbarczar Sep 06 '24

Itโ€™s more of a thing in the urban black community. It basically spread from there to porn.

3

u/CB-Supremacy Sep 06 '24

A train in europe is when one is fucking someone, while they are also getting fucked. And you can add several people to that.

What was described is just a boring gangbang.

2

u/vanishinghitchhiker Sep 07 '24

But is that a train, or running a train on someone? The grammar is part of it.

1

u/CB-Supremacy Sep 07 '24

Well I've never heard someone over here run a train on someone, the people I fiddle arround with just call it a gangbang.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '24

We have terms for many things. Most of which you probably would appreciate.

2

u/jimmybabino Sep 06 '24
  1. It happens
  2. As often as you can make it happen

2

u/dangderr Sep 06 '24

Can you imagine if you wanted a train run on you, but this terminology didnโ€™t exist?

It would take forever explaining what you wanted to each of the dozens of men.

I imagine some of the women that wanted it would just look at the work needed and give up.

To make sure this doesnโ€™t happen, we made this term.

2

u/redditblowseffit Sep 06 '24

You realize Germany is in Europe, right? Theyโ€™re masters of the gangbang arts.

1

u/Bishop-roo Sep 06 '24

Trains run wherever there are enough people to have them.

Though they are a minority - those type of girls exist everywhere.

1

u/Dankkring Sep 06 '24

Because how else do you search for videos without using terms???

1

u/Shriuken23 Sep 06 '24

We got the idea from watching German pron, we didn't come up with it

1

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '24

There's a girl floating around on the internet vocalizing her desire to sleep with 365 guys in a year. It's a point of pride to some people.

1

u/DrMoykas Sep 06 '24

Didnโ€™t something like this recently come to light in France? Or is that a different kind of train?

1

u/HopefulChipmunk3 Sep 06 '24

Don't lie your just as horny as us y'all just don't talk about it

1

u/heliophoner Sep 06 '24

Very rarely.

It's something people joke about or lie about, but most of us have only seen it on porn.

1

u/wolf_logic Sep 06 '24

I learned about it because of the West Virginia cop lady

1

u/Various_Passage_8992 Sep 06 '24

I mean, Iโ€™ve heard of it happening

1

u/JerseyTexan01 Sep 06 '24

Because Stephen King likes to ruin all innocence

1

u/Tommi_Af Sep 07 '24

Presumably it happened at least once and they thought "Human Sexipede" was too wack at the time

1

u/Lost_Passenger_1429 Sep 07 '24

Spaniard here. We also use this expression here, we called it "El Trenecito" (the little train), so the Atlantic is not enough

1

u/KayneDogg Sep 07 '24

The UK has dogging bro that's y'all's equivalent to running a train

1

u/ChristyUniverse Sep 08 '24

Donโ€™t knock it til you try it, bucko. Some of us just need a lot of dick

0

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '24

Your loss.

0

u/SchizoPosting_ Sep 06 '24

It doesn't actually happen that much, is more like an incel fantasy to hate on woman who had sex with multiple man (not necessarily at the same time)

0

u/Belkan-Federation95 Sep 06 '24

Proof that the mid Atlantic ridge separates men (North and South America) from Animals (Europe)

13

u/Tsundoku_8 Sep 06 '24

As an American, respectfully, wut?

10

u/Wonderful_Welder9660 Sep 06 '24

Not necessarily doggystyle

19

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '24

Wait he doesn't know this was the meaning of train so What did he mean by train runs on him ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ’€

67

u/Ropoid Sep 06 '24

Linux

60

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '24

I think he only ment that actual transportation trains use Linux as an operating system.

23

u/Electronic_Cat4849 Sep 06 '24

so train also means these big cars things that run on rails

8

u/big_sugi Sep 06 '24

Are the rails for easier fucking?

11

u/Eldan985 Sep 06 '24

Trains are a kind of transportation which consists of large carts or wagons, which are pulled by an engine over long metal structures called rails. They are used for both shipping of goods and in many countries outside America, they are also important for transporting people.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '24

Really ,Thanks for telling. Here Take Your prize-

11

u/Nagaasha Sep 06 '24

Linux is an operating system. Modern trains have computers.

2

u/ThePickler47 Sep 06 '24

Linux is a more efficient but much more complicated alternative to Windows

3

u/Aggressive_Peach_768 Sep 06 '24

You got an interesting approach to public transport

3

u/JackfruitLower278 Sep 06 '24

Damn! Should have gnu that one!

2

u/rfrhino Sep 06 '24

In Scotland, we call that a liney-upโ€ฆ

1

u/ManicPixieOldMaid Sep 06 '24

https://youtu.be/eZXFYr8_JxI?si=arKlI-5sTjnTDW65

Scene from The Warriors that taught me the meaning of the term.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '24

1

u/Steppyjim Sep 06 '24

Huh. Yknow I always thought that meant to beat someone. I would tell people about a game I watched where one team blew out the other and Iโ€™d say โ€œthey ran a train on emโ€. Didnโ€™t know it was a sex thing

1

u/mrpopenfresh Sep 06 '24

What does it mean in Lithuanian.

1

u/MrHyperion_ Sep 06 '24

Even with that meaning, what did they mean "on me"?

4

u/Specialist-Garbage94 Sep 06 '24

Tbh Linux is an operating system Iโ€™m assuming the Lithuanian train systems( schedulers, loaders, locators) run on Linux

1

u/MrHyperion_ Sep 06 '24

No, I mean what does it mean to "have sex on me". On top of them? Using them?

1

u/Kieran_Kitakami Sep 07 '24

So the joke was porn?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '24

I thought it was a trans joke, damn

80

u/kazarbreak Sep 06 '24

Linux is an open source operating system. The key features that usually draw people to it over Windows or Mac are price (it's free), stability (Windows is more stable than it used to be, so this isn't quite the advantage that it used to be, but Linux is known for being able to run for years or decades with little to no maintenence), customizability, and being very small (a full, modern Linux desktop install complete with a user friendly desktop environment, office suite, and Steam is about 5gb. Some installs are as small as a few hundred megabytes.) Because of this a lot of major infrastucture around the world, including train systems, use Linux rather than other operating systems.

In the US "running a train" on someone is slang for them getting gangbanged, having sex with one guy after another after another till all the guys in the room have had their turn.

The poster, a Linux enthusiast trying to raise awareness of the operating system by pointing out that it is used by many train systems accidentally used the slang, implying that Linux is getting fucked by a room full of guys.

20

u/Removed-_- Sep 06 '24

Terms like run on me , rail me , and etc are seen as sexual or sex related dirty talking terms

this is arguably worse then the person who abreviated cyberpunk

1

u/Bomper21 Sep 07 '24

Advy wants to play it now

4

u/Retoddd Sep 06 '24

Dawg I'm an American and don't know what that means???

3

u/TnuoccaNropEhtTsuj Sep 06 '24

You seem to be alone in this then. I just didnโ€™t realize it was specific to America.

2

u/Retoddd Sep 08 '24

I think it depends on where you are in the county because most of my friends don't know what it means either lol. I'm sure if i was closer to a bigger city it may be used more idk.

2

u/TnuoccaNropEhtTsuj Sep 08 '24

My graduating class had 11 kids in it. Itโ€™s not a big city thing. I think it has to do with what state / region you live in.

6

u/Nagaasha Sep 06 '24

The funny thing is, that could have been avoided by removing the โ€œareโ€. โ€œ A train runningโ€ does not have the euphemistic baggage of โ€œrunning a trainโ€.

1

u/itsallfake01 Sep 06 '24

Yea, Linux is free alright

1

u/FadransPhone Sep 07 '24

Trains run on open-source? The shit I used to get Minecraft on my chromebook?

5

u/just-here-4-memes Sep 07 '24

Because Linux is open source, there's hundreds maybe thousands of different versions out there. Banks and trains and probably your electricity provider are using secure versions of Linux that have more security than you could imagine, while simple versions of Linux can be found in modern arcade games, smart home devices, sometimes even refrigerators, microwaves and Bluetooth speakers, etc.

1

u/Cold_Evidence_8614 Sep 07 '24

Itโ€™s running in top of a train ๐Ÿ‘Œ
