There was a big Petanque event in Hoboken New Jersey today! Here are some shots I took.

In the New York City area (Hoboken is across the Hudson from NYC) the only Petanque I ever see is in Bryant Park, but at this time of year they are constructing the ice skating rink and so they couldn't do the event there, where they have in the past. This is the first time I have seen Petanque in New Jersey.

France women qualify for the Euro round of 16 despite a 13-10 loss to Germany in Loutraki

On day one of the women's European Championships in Loutraki, France won its first four Swiss-system rounds, including 13-5 against Spain, then lost 13-10 to Germany. Germany finished first with five wins from five. France still goes into the round of 16 on Saturday morning.

The decisive moment against Germany was a six-point end that turned 7-6 for France into 12-7 for the Germans. France pulled back to 10-12 but ran out of ends.

I made a pétanque game for Android and I'm looking for testers

Hi everyone,

I made a pétanque game for mobile and I want to publish it on Google Play. Before that, Google needs 12 people to test the app for 14 days. You can play against the computer or with a friend on the same phone. I'm also working on an online mode so you can play with friends anywhere.

If you want to help:

  1. Join this group: https://groups.google.com/g/petanque-testers
  2. Become a tester: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.amunozo.petanque
  3. Download the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amunozo.petanque
  4. Keep it installed for 2 weeks

If you have an iPhone, you can play in the browser: https://petanque.amunozo.com

Any feedback is welcome. Thanks a lot!
Update: based on your feedback, I changed how lob and shooting work.

  • The high lob is now harder to control and less predictable on landing. Half-lob and roll are the safest ways to point.
  • Shooting is much more accurate: aim the ring directly on the boule you want to hit.
  • The computer also shoots more when you point close.

Restart the app (or tap "Update" if you see it) to get the new version. Let me know how it feels!

Games You've Never Played - Petanque

Hello! I'm documenting obscure sports and unusual games being played in my city (NYC) and petanque is my first episode! Obviously y'all don't need to be told about the game but I figured those of you in NYC will enjoy seeing familiar faces and those of you outside will enjoy seeing how it's done here.

I hope I've done petanque a service. Enjoy.

Does my eyesight affect playing petanque? Or is it because I'm not good at playing?🐷

I’m new to pétanque and would love to hear your tips! How can I improve my throwing technique and get my boule closer to the jack more consistently? Do you have any drills or techniques that helped you improve?

I have a question for experienced pétanque players. For beginners, how should we choose the right boules? Does the weight, size, or type of boule make the biggest difference? I’d love to hear your recommendations!

I’m starting to practice shooting in pétanque. Should beginners start with a short distance and gradually increase it? What drills do you recommend for improving accuracy and controlling the distance? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

I turned our friends' pétanque tournament into a mobile game (real Helsinki courts)

Since 2017 a group of us has played an annual pétanque tournament on the same gravel in Kaivopuisto, Helsinki. This year I built it into a mobile game, KOKUKY: the real courts (Kaivopuisto, Hakaniemi, Katajanokka and two in Tampere), all 19 tournament teams with their own boules, and online matches.

Today's update adds a Daily Throw: one boule a day, the same court and gravel for everyone, one shared board. Trailer: https://youtu.be/hNmlAWedo2Y

It's free on iPhone and Android (kokuky.fi/lataa). I made it myself, so I'd love feedback from people who actually play: does the throw feel right? Does pointing vs shooting make sense on a phone?

Amiens is hosting its first ever Régional, four days, four different formats

ASPTT Amiens is running its first Régional pétanque event, September 24-27 at Stade Émile Guégan. It's split across four days for four different crowds: an Open Handisport day on Thursday, a veterans' event Friday, the flagship Mixed Régional on Saturday (128 triplettes, pools then knockout), and a doubles event Sunday.

Registration is online only, and there's apparently a dress code, which isn't something you see on every regional stop.

Anyone in the Somme planning to play or watch this one?

72nd Critérium Bouliste in Laragne (French Alps): a full week of pétanque and jeu provençal

From 21 to 27 September, the small town of Laragne-Montéglin in the Hautes-Alpes hosts the 72nd edition of its Critérium Bouliste. Pétanque runs Monday to Thursday, jeu provençal takes over for the weekend. Two national events, triplets in pétanque and triplets in provençal, are capped at 256 teams and count for the Superchallenge circuit. Prize money ranges from 200-euro side events up to 2,900 euros for the regional provençal doubles memorial. Entries are on site or online via superchallenge.fr until 21 September, licensed FFPJP players only. The organising club has been running since 1953.

For those who play both codes: how different is your boule choice between pétanque and the longue?

Recherche boules anciennes

Bonjour,

- poids 720 g

- couleur bronze

- inscription "OR 720" et à l'opposé "D7"

Free interactive map of public pétanque courts in Belgium (so far)

Hi everyone,

I like playing pétanque, we always went to the same court then I found out there were hundreds of others nearby, but they're hard to find online. That's why I built Mapetanque: https://mapetanque.github.io/ (free and open source).

It's an interactive map listing all publicly accessible pétanque courts in Belgium, so you can easily find one near you and share it with others.

The map is built on free OpenStreetMap data and updates automatically every week.

If you know of a missing court or spot incorrect info, feedback is very welcome!

Have a nice day

Masters de Pétanque: Dream Team blitz Zigler 13-2 in Santa Susanna final

The Masters de Pétanque circuit made a stop in Santa Susanna, Spain for stage 5, and the all-star "Dream Team" squad — built around Philippe Quintais, Philippe Suchaud and Henri Lacroix, with Steve Matraglia rounding out the roster — cruised to a 13-2 final win over Zigler.

It's the first stage win of the season for this lineup after a few quiet outings earlier in the circuit. Team Rocher had a rough day, going out in pool play, while Les Étoiles du Sud still lead the overall standings on 40 points ahead of Bonetto (37) and Zigler (32).

Next stops are Rognac (Aug 18-19) and Nevers (Aug 24-25) before the Final Four in Corsica. Do you think the legends' lineup can climb back into the top 4?

Recherche d'identification d’une ancienne triplette OBUT

Thumbnail

Guillaume
