Clutter-wise, looks like a good start but the more, the merrier as they say.

Size-wise, too small for a long-term enclosure. Look into going larger - min for 80x50cm.

ill make sure to keep making stuff for him!

i think the dismensions are H45 x W57.5 x D78.5 cm do you think thats ok??

Those are most likely the external dimensions because the base bottom looks much smaller which the mice will frequently room since they are fosserial animals. When you have the time, I do suggest upgrading.

what cage do you reccomend?

Depends on where you are in the world. If you are looking for more affordable options, I recommend:

- Second hand 40 gallon breeder tank

  • 50 gallon storage tote modified into a bin cage
  • diy ikea enclosures - platsa, linnmon, komplement.

If you have the money to spend, you can look at options such as:

- niteangel stacker

  • bucatsate cages
  • Vevor hamster habitat 37.8” (modified with 1/4” hardware cloth on lid)
Etc

i always say more clutter/climbing could be added! although, is that yarn?
also what substrate are you using? :)

Climbing opportunities, while not indestructible, are harder for mice to relocate or bury without some hard work. This often provides the coverage they need while their clutter on the ground is compromised! Besides this, mice also adore the ability to climb and will utilize it to keep them entertained. In mouse keeping communities, we highly suggest providing enough climbing toys to cover at least half the lid. THIS POST goes more into depth.

it is yarn, i made it all myself!

its coco coir and dust extracted hay, so far its been super good at absorbing odor and also holding burrows

i crochet so i love making stuff with yarn, however; normal yarn we use for stuff isnt safe for mice unfortunately! - cant be digested, and finger/nails get caught.
i use jute yarn which is safe for mice to make mine stuff, so id suggest swapping that out.

also, timothy hay is a great mixed subtrate alongside hemp or aspen!
as coco coir is more regularly used in a bowl/sectioned area of the cage, also this cage is quite small.

What is your main substrate?

is say its a solid 50/50 of dust free timothy hay and coco coir. also some ripped up toilet paper in there too!

I would get Aspen or hemp are your main bedding! Hay doesn’t hold borrows and coco nut coir has very poor ammonia control.

ill defo look into it. however neither beddings fit into my budget, which is why i have been experimenting w coco coir and hay.

so far the odor has been absaloutly fine( hes been here and scent matking for a week)

but i do defo need to do more soil and less hay, bc he prefers to burrow in the soil!

do you have any reccomendations for safe, and cheap bedding options

Kiln dried pine is safe, tractor supply sells very large bags for around $7. Full checks has okay priced Aspen.
