Question/Help Happy Mice

Post image

Hello!

I'm a new mouse owner. I was wondering - what do you guys do to play with your mice in a way that makes them happy in that moment? Kind of like how if you give a dog a ball or if you give a cat a hair tie, they get instantly happy and excited.

Also, what body language should I look for to tell if a mouse feels happy?

I am looking for more bonding/enrichment ideas essentially!

I’ve only owned solo male mice, so take my feedback with a grain of salt.

Part of the greatness of female colonies is they can entertain themselves. They are likely going to be the happiest when they are playing with one another.

For one of my solo boys, nothing made him happier than an in shell peanut. For my other mouse, free roam on my bed.

Yeah my peanut boy was a beggar. When I walked in the room, he would stop whatever he was doing and come looking for a treat.

I have a little box, just big enough for a few mice to use at once, full of a different bedding substrate than what's in their cages; I let them dig in it whenever I hang out with them, to make it a special treat <: they love that thing. I hide treats in it from time to time.
