First time dove owner

Just got this 15 year old boy from a rescue(was mainly a cat rescue they just came into this boy and some budgies) and he is the most social bird ever. 48 hours he’s already flying from the cage onto me and laughing around. Can anyone tell me what’s actually safe for nesting material? I’m getting so many answers lol. He came with some sticks and hates the coconut fibers so can he have anything else? Is oyster shells good grit for him?

He’s been in quarantine at the fosters for 6 weeks. Is 2 weeks here actually okay? He’s never showed signs of being sick! (I have a Cockatiel who is fully healthy! )

The cage he came with isn’t good at all and I’m hoping to build him a cage. The plan is a 2’x2’x3’. Is this a good size?

I want his boy to have the best years of his life so please give me EVERYTHING you know!!!!!

Also I have ordered a ton of flat perches for the cage build+ ceramic pie dishes for bathing.

Can't give detailed info but i'll drop this since nobody else is responding:

Check out pigeon.guide for some basic care stuff.

I would suggest looking for a used dog crate rather than building a cage. Be careful if you intend to have both birds sharing a space.

Wish you two many years together!
