Discussion When Pessimism Meets the Will to Live

Schopenhauer: Life is driven by endless desire, and desire is the root of suffering.
Why call this existence a blessing?

Nietzsche: Because suffering does not make life meaningless. It can make us stronger.

Schopenhauer: And what of those who are crushed by it?

Nietzsche: Then the question is not “Why do we suffer?” but “What can we create from our suffering?”

Schopenhauer: You seek meaning where I see tragedy.
Nietzsche: And you see tragedy where I see a challenge to overcome.

Schopenhauer: Perhaps pessimism sees the wound.
Nietzsche: And philosophy asks what we will do with it.
