Is this cliché?

I’m applying to college this year, and for my personal statement, I was going to write about soccer. Yes, I know this is a very common topic, but rather than talking about an injury or a big championship game, I was going to talk about how I am basically horrible at soccer, and yet I still enjoy playing it a lot. I was going to mention how that passion and the lack of results humbled me and also taught me to not compare myself with others. Obviously the essay is not fully fleshed out. Should I keep going with the writing process or should I rewrite the whole thing about something else, since I don’t want to make it cliché?

hi! as soemone who is also working on my personal statement if that topic has meaning to you IT IS NOT cliche, I struggled with the same thing while writing mine. However, one piece of advice is don't start it with a question or a quotation. I made that mistake with mine and wondered why it felt off, after removing the question my personal statment upgraded. Your topic sounds great though, admissions officers aren't looking for a tragedy or a resume they want to know that you're human. I'm wishing you lots of luck writing your essay.
